I’ve downloaded and installed Plex (1.2.0) and Plex Media Server (1.16.5) on my Mac. However each time I try to open them I receive the error:
“Plex” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.
This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information.
I’m running MacOS Catalina, 10.15 Beta (19A546d)
Has anyone else ran into this issue? How can I resolve this or download the previous versions of Plex and Plex Media Server

Thanks. However, although many are similar none of the examples given address the error message I’m receiving.
I think the underlying issue is the developer keys for the app not being recognized by Apple.
The link above is correct but Apple hasn’t updated their docs with changes for Catalina and won’t until it goes gold sometime after Cook gets up on stage this month.
Right after you get the message you posted you should be able to go to Apple > Preferences > Security and Privacy. You should see a button in the bottom right that lets you tell macOS to open the app. macOS will remember your decision for the app in the future (at least that version of it). In general you should only do this when you do trust the person who gave you the app.
