Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173
HTPC Version#: 10.0.19043
Plex App Version#: 8.25.28703
Android Version #: 8.0.0.0
My Plex server media server is on the same machine I do most of my viewing on.
I use my android phone sometimes to play things directly on it over the local network, which generally works well.
When I attempt to play something on the larger PC screen either through the Web player or HTPC and connecting through the “casting” function to use my phone as a remote control, The Plex app on my phone will consistently display the message “Disconnected - Do you want to continue playback on this device Yes/No”
After selecting “no” I then have to click on the casting button again the attempt to reconnect, but often no devices will appear until I completely close the phone app and restart it.
After restarting the phone app, sometimes the correct devices will appear, but often (usually after a second disconnect) no devices or wrong devices will appear. When wrong devices appear, they are things like my Google Home Mini that has no reason to appear and usually doesn’t. This will occur until the players on the PC and phone are closed and restarted completely, but will disconnect again.
Steps to Reproduce:
Prerequisites:
- Have a Plex account (Plex Account A).
- Windows 10 PC
–Plex Media Server downloaded and installed.
– HTPC downloaded and installed.
– Signed it with Plex Account A. - Android Phone

– Signed in with Plex Account A. - Have at least 1 library with at least 1 media file available.
- Open HTPC.
- Start Plex Android App.
- Tap the “casting” button on the top right of the Android App.
- Select the HTPC for Windows entry.
- Select a Library.
- Play any available media.
Expected Result:
The media plays uninterrupted without error or disconnection messages.
Actual Result:
The media plays uninterrupted on the PC’s larger screen, but the Plex app disconnects constantly after approximately 10-20 minutes.
Reproduction:
100%
WORKAROUND:
The only solution or work around I’ve found is to use MPC-HC or VLC, which have remote control apps (and better chapter support I.E.: next button skips chapters instead of skipping files entirely), but also completely bypasses Plex stat, library management and other features.
