I was going to ask for help resolving an issue I was having, but found a solution. In case anyone else encounters the same thing, I wanted to share what I did.
Problem: When playing music from Plex on my android device (Fire HD 10 7th Gen) via Chromecast Audio Group, the Plex app would disconnect from the Chromecast Audio Group after approximately 45 seconds, but the music would continue to play to the group. Of course, I could not control it (pause, skip, etc). I could get the Plex App to reconnect to the Chromecast Audio Group, but it would start over rather than resume, and every time, about 45 seconds later, it would disconnect again. Worth noting that I have been using this setup for a very long time without issue, and I have not made any changes to the setup (other than the normal app updates). I looked at many network settings and could not find a cause. I was about to give up debugging when I realized that one of the four Chromecast Audio devices in my group was connected to a receiver input that was not selected. To be clear, this particular Chromecast Audio was connected to the network, but the output was going nowhere because the receiver was sending a different input to the speakers. I wanted to leave it this way for now, so I used Google Home to modify the group and remove this one Chromecast Audio from the group. Went back to the Plex App on my tablet, reconnected to the Chromecast Audio Group and started playing music. Lo and behold! I’ve been playing music for an hour now without a disconnect.
Best guess: I suspect the one Chromecast Audio realized somehow that the output was going nowhere and went to sleep and/or disconnected. The Plex App must have read a sleep/disconnect signal from the device, even though the other three devices were still working fine, and disconnected the Plex App from the Chromecast Audio Group. If this is actually what happened, I’m not sure if the bug is on the part of Google or Plex, but Plex should not have disconnected from the group unless ALL of the devices in the group were at sleep/disconnect, not just one.
Hope this helps someone.
