I use Plex on my Android smartphone. It appears that the latest version of the app, released on the 3/3/21, has stopped my ability to cast streams to Chromecast.
My Plex server appears to be working correctly, and streams all files, to all connected devices without error, including the Android handset that no longer casts. I can play all streams on the affected Android handset from the Plex server. I simply cannot cast them any longer.
The Android handset still casts correctly, and without fault from YouTube and NowTV, amongst others including the apps of all of the major UK TV broadcasters like the BBC and ITV, therefore the handset is not at fault.
I have rebooted the Android handset, it made no difference.
I have rebooted the Chromecast devices (2 of them) in two different TV’s, but it made no difference.
I have removed and then reinstalled the Plex app on the Android handset from Google Play, this also made no difference.
It appears to be a fault within the Android app itself. When you instruct the app to cast the content which is playing quite happily on the handset, the Chromecast device is activated, it switches to the relevant input on the TV, and a grey Plex screen appears on the TV. The Plex symbol is on the screen, with the message:
"Ready to cast
Choose some media in Plex and play it here"
The Plex app on the Android handset then freezes and becomes unresponsive for about 10 seconds, and a Google O/S message appears on the handset screen indicating that the app has become unresponsive, and asking if you want to close the app, or wait. Closing the app is the only option to if you wish to be able to use your handset again.
Can you please advise how I can roll-back to the previous version of the Android app, so that I can continue being able to cast Plex?
