New Android Mobile App - Chromecast Issue

Continuing the discussion from It’s Been One Week With the New Experience on Mobile—And We’re Just Getting Started:

Server Version#:Version 1.41.7.9749
Player Version#: 2025.14.0(966828378)

I have updated to the new app which is amazing
However when I’m doing Chromecast from my phone (see attached the info version of said app) to any chromecast enabled device meaning :

  • Google Home Device (all générations as I have many of them)
  • Android TV with Google tv dongle
  • android tv built in on the tv
  • Etc

All are not working
Meaning :

  • I click on the Chromecast on the new Plex app
  • it syncs and does the noise indicating it’s synced
  • it then show the tv show or movie I’m seeing on my app
  • then I click play
  • then it’s attempting to do the cast
  • and few second afterward it shows “buffering” on the app
  • and then the video starts to play but buffering (without it writing “buffering”
  • and then it goes to the previous screen which is the one when we see the item I’m about to play

It’s as if someone hit “stop” and cancelled the Chromecast feed

And when I restart my phone and/or Chromecast device it does the same thing

However when I try to Chromecast from the Plex web app (through a browser) from the same phone, it works without an issue

So it’s truly the new app going this
Yesterday (literally) with the old app it was working fine and now today with the new app its not. And only thing that changed is the app

Since the server version is still the same, router stills the same and phone still the same

Can anyone help me with this ?

Hey Mate,

I am having the same issue as well.
It seems that since the new update alot of people are affected by this casting issue.

Unfortunately you are lucky if you have the old version still cause there is no way to download the old version. Doesnt seem that there is a rollback back to this situation.

PLEX SUPPORT: Please advised if there is a rollback or download the old version for us to cast.

Thanks

Just download the old version and rollback (uninstall current version first).

This question has been asked and solved over and over.

I have a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and downloaded all the version of the old version (through the .apk) and none of them are compatible (error message for every single one of them preventing from completing the setup)

Are we sure it’s possible to do the setup of an old version ?

You uninstalled the current version first?

Pixel 9 XL is arm64v8a

Fantastic, the rollback now worked
We all good

Thanks for that

Now all that is left to do, is fixing all the declared bugs on the new app

Thanks again

OMG thank so much my friend, you are a life saver!!!
Best IT support ever!!!

That’s a workaround not a solution.

The solution is for Plex to deploy a fix or pull the new app entirely until it’s out of alpha.

Indeed it is (a workaround)
The new app is buggy like crazy and if it can be pulled for now it’d be better
As of now I must deactivate the auto update so as not to update the Plex app once more

This version feels like a beta version (or alpha) but not a finished product indeed

Of course, but he asked how to rollback.
