Plex Android does not advance to next episode, just reloads same episode and does not play

#2 is what you’re talking about and I also experience like I said.

I agree that it’s ridiculous that it hasn’t been fixed yet.

Too much focus on cloud features. Between basic functionality being and ignored and the lack of commitment to the HTPC platform I am deeply regretting buying life time and am looking to switch platforms.

I would go one step further… If playing randomly from a playlist… Every playlist item should be played from the beginning (or at least have the option to force this behavior)… I can manually force each episode to be ‘unwatched’, but I shouldnt have to. Its weird that some videos in the list will begin in the middle because at one point in the past, playback was stopped before it finished.

I agree. It would be nice if playlists could be set to not affect watched status.

This problem persists in 8.12.2.22756 (07e2b014) and it’s making me want to unsubscribe from Plex Pass. It happens on the Firestick TV Gen 1 (as well as crashing after an hour), which I got rid of a few days ago and replaced with a Mi Box S Android TV. The problem happens much more often on the Mi Box S than the Firestick.

I use Android, Android TV, Firefox, and iOS to watch my shows and the Android TV build is the only one doing this.

EDIT: I should add it happens every single time for me. You may want to test on a Mi Box S.

Issue still exists on 2017 Nvidia Shield Plex app 8.12.4.22902
FreeBSD PMS 1.21.1.3830

Will not advance to next episode automatically. You see the countdown and then it will attempt to play but will still be on the last frame of the previous episode. You can press back and attempt to start it again from the screen that comes up to automatically play the next episode however it will still not start. You must go back to the season episode list and pick it manually.

Also, potentially unrelated, but when you get near the end of a movie or tv show you cannot jump back at all without it freezing. Say you’re 3 minutes from the end and missed something and you want to jump back 10 seconds, the video will freeze. Usually if you’ve got more than 5 minutes left in the video you can jump back with no issues.

Lately I’ve been having this issue again, but instead it will freeze the first frame of the next episode. I don’t know when it started exactly, but quite a few versions now (public and beta). Hitting skip intro or jumping anywhere in the video and back unfreezes it.

I am on the latest android tv beta and noticed this issue popped up again.

On my phone it just never automatically advances to the next episode at all.

I like to listen to old shows as I fall asleep. Used to do it with the Amazon app, but then theirs developed a glitch where it would repeat the episode instead of moving to the next one, so I thought I’d try the plex app on my phone. Big plex library, but normally only access it on Roku.

No luck. I have never once been able to leave a show going without being startled awake by a sudden lack of sound as the first episode I put on ends and nothing else starts.

Who knew such a basic feature was so complicated two different video playing apps wouldn’t be able to handle it.

Just one more significant bug languishing in Plex for months or years I guess.

I wonder if the behavior where an episode or song from a playlist is automatically resumed where it left off previously, has some sort of impact on what we are seeing. Have you tried setting the playlist to ‘unplayed’ ? I think I saw something in there somewhere that it can be done… I wonder if it changes anything in relation to this bug? I am going to test that out.

@plex_hartmanipulation_com: I do the same thing at night. I ended up taking my favorite shows and used some free programs to remove the audio track and now I play them like music files. It has worked quite well. Not that this excuses Plex, but thought I’d toss this your way as it isn’t as hard as you might think (and I’m probably not even doing it the easiest way).

I’m sure I could batch-convert a bunch of them with ffmpeg but definitely more trouble than it’s worth. Easier to just not use Plex.

Would you be able to share the logs after experiencing the issue from a recent version (v8.13.1 or v8.14) of the Plex for Android app? Info on grabbing the logs is available here; Android, Android TV, Fire TV Logs | Plex Support

I have noticed with a recent beta version, not the latest, at the last few seconds of the countdown going to next episode, it starts the audio. So if there are 3 seconds, the audio of the next episode starts and then video catches up.
