Plex Android does not advance to next episode, just reloads same episode and does not play

@BigWheel any progress on recreating/fixing the issue?

I have not been able to reproduce it at all.

Already posted log from App above, is there anything else we can do to help recreate it?

How is that even possible? What hardware are you testing on? What are our logs not showing you? What are you doing to test? Are you letting it run long enough? For how many episodes? You do realize it doesn’t happen every time, right?

Experiencing similar issues on shield TV, playing TV show episodes, sometimes they play through to next episode, sometimes they just stop and go back to the beginning of the last played episode, but doesn’t play.
Trailers end and stay on the last frame, movies also end and stay on the last frame, instead of going back to movie menu.

There was a crash fixed with autoplay in 8.50 they are still looking at other possible causes.

been seeing this for months on both nvidia shields we have running. unfortunate it has persisted so long…

If you’re having trouble with repro, come to my house, I can guarantee a repro.

are you still seeing it with 8.5.0 or 8.6.0 beta

So from this I get that you don’t even have a shield to test on???

I have multiple Shields that I use every day and have never reproduced it. You believing that or not doesn’t concern me. I believe all of you that there is an issue. There was an attempted fix in 8.5.0. If that is still not working for you then please let me know and please provide logs from 8.5.0 - 8.60, so I can tell the Android dev team that their fix did not work.

Anyway… I have been testing mine for a few hours now with music videos so file changes every 5 minutes and so far it hasn’t happened… Can’t say for sure it’s fixed at least for a couple days but so far so good for my 1 shield, will test the other over night

Just replying to let you know that I’m having issues with this. I have the following running:

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3421
Player Version#: 8.7.2.20952

I have a Mibox 3, which works absolutely fine, but then a Mibox S that I just bought and experiencing this issue. I just did a factory reset today on it and it’s still happening.

I’m trying to figure out how to collect the logs. If I turn network logging on, it will automatically turn off after a few minutes, which prevents me from capturing the issue.

I’d love to help and send as much information as I can, but I don’t fully know how to keep logging on long enough to capture this information.

I have the same issue on Mibox 3, it tries to start the same episode on aying next and then black screen.

Joining the party. Latest Plex for FireTV 4K along with latest Plex Server has been working fine for many TV shows and movies. 1st encountered this issue watching old cartoons. Randomly it would exhibit the issues described here (e.g. plays episode -> frozen last frame(s) and no audio -> observe player tracking and it appears the episode is playing again). Every once in a while it will knock audio out on the FireTV across the board - e.g. even when force quitting Plex, no sound is produced.

Played with FireTV audio settings (e.g. Best Available, Dolby, Dolby+) - none seem to resolve aside from reboot the Fire TV. Subsequently found that I could restore systemwide audio by changing the Audio from/to any of the settings (e.g. Best Available, Dolby, etc). This seems to reset whatever corrupt state the codec ends up in. Guessing the problem happens at end of episode as audio mode switches from MP3/AC3 Mono state to some other state. Further tried testing with/without HDMI passthrough.

Right now testing with New Player disabled… TBD. The factor seems to be related to playing MP3 Mono and/or AC3 Mono. Will continue testing, but meanwhile wanted to share my experience. What audio coding have others been seeing this happen with?

UPDATE: Indeed switching to old player (turning off Use New Player from Plex Client) seems to have resolved the issue I was experiencing. So it appears ā€œnewā€ player has issue dealing with transitioning between AC3 Mono and/or MP3 Mono videos. Given the age of this thread, old player must be very old player - but so far see no material disadvantage to using the old play besides the lower resolution and lack of slider shuttle action.

Did a complete reset of my 2017 Shield, issue went away for a week and now has returned. Also seeing this problem on 2019 Shield (Last frame of previous episode frozen on screen with ā€œSkip Introā€ displayed in the top right).

Had to go back to new player, since old player has issue with different media (e.g. non-AC3 Mono and/or MP3 Mono Videos).

It is disappointing to see how problems seem to languish for months and years with Plex :frowning: I am new to the club, moving from Kodi. Watching a similar drawl on the Camera Import ā€œfeatureā€ which has not worked since PMS 1.19.x. Hope I didn’t board a sinking ship…

I use an android tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 5e Wifi) in landscape mode… I run the latest server with all the updates on Linux Mint.

I have many video playlists. I like to load a playlist and have it play randomly. I can easily recreate the stopping problems with the playlists…

Essentially the playlist will behave on initial start… but if there is anything that interrupts playback (pausing for too long, tablet blanks and has to be woken back up, skipping an episode, or starting from the beginning etc) the playlist will finish an episode and sit at a blank black screen… touching the tablet will reveal the controls to press the skip forward button, which will resume playback on the next episode… but after that episode finishes… its right back where it was, with the blank screen.

The only way to get the automated playback and working is to exit the playlist and re-enter it for random playback. This has been an issue for months. I have been just hitting ā€˜next episode’ waiting for the problem to be resolved.

#1 is by design according to Plex

Autoplay stops working after no interaction to prevent entire shows from being ā€œwatchedā€ if the user falls asleep. Which is complete BS IMO there isn’t an option to disable that behavior.

I also experience #2 on the latest Android app on my V30

I understand autoplay stops working after a while… I actually like that feature, though like you, it should be defeatable, especially if you are playing material from your own library… It’s not like there are costs involved in letting items play.

This is not the same issue… I can play a single episode and the playback will stop between episodes… The screen will be black, like it stopped on the last frame of the video… Pressing ā€˜next’ will get it rolling again.

This is super easy to re-create. I even saw this the other day on a new Chromecast TV dongle.

Create a video playlist, go to the playlist and select random for playback… Let it play. It will stop moving to the next item in the list… Sometimes after a few items, sometimes after many… I think this also occurs with music playlists.

This is absolutely a bug… I cant believe it isn’t fixed yet.
