Plex Android on x86 Chromebooks 5.1 audio with no/low/echo-y voice audio channels

So far the mods have not replied.

An easy workaround I found in another thread on the Plex Forums is to not use the Plex app on a Chromebook if this happens. Instead use the web interface in the chromre browser at plex.tv/web.

Playback works normally in the browser/ web.
Hope that helps.

The web interface is a good work around, when you are on a network. But doesn’t help for syncing items and watching on an airplane…

I’m having the same issue with the yellow tint and audio staying in the background. Just tried it today and noticed the problem on my Pixel Chromebook.

Same issue here with pixel slate. The exact same problem has occurred for years with the Samsung tablets. S2, s3, onward. I’ve reported it here and there are tons of similar posts on it. I wish they’d at least acknowledge the bug!

Note that synced and downloaded content works ok. The surround downmixing on my PC Plex server is fine. It’s the Android client that is buggy.

I’ll likely have to re rip 400 plus movies to form a fake stereo downmix in handbrake as a longer term fix. Sigh.

looks like last update fixed it.

The last update did not fix this problem on my pixelbook.

Didn’t fix it on my pixel slate tablet either.

I’ve been and still am experiencing the same issues on a Asus Chromebook Flip running the android app. So no, the latest update did not fix it.

I was mistaken. the yellow image is fixed. Audio issue remains.

I have that too on a Chromebook Spin 13 with the Android app. Tested AC3, EAC3 and DTS. All the same. Missing voice channel. Maybe it’s just the center channel that is missing?

Yep me too on Lenovo E300; background audio only, no voices

still no update…

Come on Plex through some support this way, this is horrible, can’t even watch movies in Plex on Chrome OS :frowning: This has always been Plex’s issue, they don’t dedicate enough resources to their core product, making sure it works perfectly everywhere with the features people want… instead they focus on other side products like Tidal integration, or podcasts… stuff no one cares about…

I have the same issue. Working from an Acer Chromebook R13. Just bought the app to make it work on this new machine :frowning:

I just sent a message to the Plex Subscription support page, asking them to forward the message to someone in support, and I sent the link to this forum.

Fingers crossed that someone see’s it and does something about it soon.

I am also experiencing this. Is there a link to the support ticket you can share so we may follow along with it’s progress?

thanks

Just an FYI - I tried the non-official Plex Android app X-Play and it experiences the same issue. This leads me to believe it is a Chrome OS issue.

I’m having the same issue with my Acer R11, I’ve been using the web app as a workaround but would really like if this can be fixed to use the app again.

Best I’ve found on my Asus Chromebook is to use Kodi with the Plex plug in.

That works perfectly, which suggests it’s not purely a Chromebook OS problem

Same thing on my Acer spin 13, plex site on my commute is locked so need the app however many shows won’t play due to the audio issue. App offers no advanced audio settings other than audio boost. Seems to only happen when plex says it is E-AC3 5.1. Why is it not trancoding to stereo or something the device can handle.
