Plex Android tv app keeps crashing when opening

Server Version#:1.18.4.2171
Player Version#:7.27.0.15018

Hi! Since Thursday 23/01 the Plex Android tv apps on both my Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 and my Nvidia Shield 2017 models keeps closing when I try to open them… I’ve had my 2017 model for wellover a year and the 2019 Pro over a month and Plex has worked flawlessly up until that point. All other apps are working as normal on both devices. I have tried clearing cache and data on the Plex apps and re-authorising both devices to my Plex media server but as soon as I do that, the furthest I ever get is it loading my home screen then closes everytime. Also tried uninstalling and installing the Plex apps again plus I’ve even tried older versions of Plex Android tv but same thing happens. I can still access my Plex media server and the servers I’m a client with on my laptop and also on my android phone and can watch media via them. I also borrowed my brothers Mecool M8SPro L tv box which runs Android tv OS and the same Plex Android tv app as the Shields and installed the Plex app but as soon as I authorize it via plex.tv/link it closes the app. I’ve tried rebooting both Shields, resetting router but everything I’ve tried hasn’t solved the issue. Even the Plex Media Server App on my Shields keeps closing when I try to open it as well. I’m at my wits end. I just can’t get my head round why it’s only been doing this since a couple of days ago when it worked flawlessly before. I haven’t changed any settings or anything for this to happen.:pensive: Any help would be much appreciated.

I installed the Plex Kodi add on and it’s working on my Shield via that. Will make do with that for now until I can find a solution. It’s actually not too bad.

I found a workaround, sign in as another user then switch users to your account. It works fine after that. Its frustrating however.

Thanks will give this a go.:+1:t2:

Hi! I’ve created a new user on my Plex Media server on my laptop and switched user to the new one. What do I need to do after that before I try and log in on the Plex apps? Thanks!

Didn’t seem to work for me either. When I sign in as another user then switch back to my account the app is still force closing. I’m totally baffled.:man_shrugging:t2:

can you get the logs from the plex app and paste here? under network logging on the link below

I’ll have a look in the morning for logs when I’m home from work.:+1:t2:

I can’t get the logs from the Plex app on any device because its force closing when I try to login to my account, no mater what device I try with the Plex app. The only way I can only access my Plex account is via the Plex Kodi add on. There’s an option to enable debug logging in that but don’t see anywhere to view the logs within the add on. If I login to my Plex media server via my laptop, would the logs for that be helpful?

Hello

Did you find a solution to your issue with not being able to log into Plex without it closing? I ask because I have been dealing with this issue for a few weeks no and have had no luck fixing it.

No mate. Still no solution. I can’t get any logs from app as been unable to log in to my Plex account without it closing. So frustrating.:pensive:

I am able to log into my plex server from another computer and get my logs. Also this morning I logged onto plex on separate computer and created a new user account. I am now able to log onto my server with the new user account.

Yeah, I can access my Plex media server on the computer it’s running on but not via the Plex app on any other device. I’ve tried creating a new user and adding it to my home and although the Plex app doesn’t force close when I login with the new user, it says it cannot connect to my Plex media server, like it’s offline or something. it also doesn’t let me connect to the other Plex servers I’m a client on with the new user which is what I really need it for. Only way I can access those servers is by logging in as original user with the Plex Kodi add on, which works fine on my Android tv devices but is not designed for mobile phones.

Having this same problem for a week so it’s not an isolated case.

If you click on a video from plex on main screen it opens fine so it’s something to do with the home screen that’s causing this issue.

You can also click on the plex recommended heading on nvidia shield homepage and it opens fine.

Edit: setting the app to auto login also fixes it.
