Plex App Completely Broken After Forced Update

Hello Plex Support,

I am absolutely livid with the state of the Plex app after the most recent forced update. I was not given any choice about whether or not to install it, and now the app is effectively unusable.

Here are the issues I am experiencing:

  • Media will not play. Selecting a title and pressing play does nothing—the screen simply stays the same.

  • Remote input is broken. I can hear the click sound, but the interface often does not respond, and sometimes the remote buttons stop working entirely.

  • Navigation is unreliable. I cannot scroll through menus, the search function won’t accept input, and even the settings menu will not allow me to move through options.

  • Exiting the app is impossible. When the “Are you sure you want to exit?” pop-up appears, I cannot move the menu down to confirm “Yes, exit.” It remains stuck on “Switch User.”

  • Rebooting my Roku only fixes it temporarily—after the first selection, the same unusable behavior returns.

I purchased a lifetime Plex Pass in 2013 and have been a loyal paying customer ever since. Right now, I cannot use the services I paid for at all. This update is full of bugs, was forced without my consent, and has left Plex in a broken state.

I expect this to be addressed immediately—either by providing a fix, clear rollback instructions, or appropriate compensation for the fact that I cannot access the service I’ve invested in for over a decade.

This is a SH*T sandwich on moldy rye bread! WHAT IDIOT thought this would be a good idea? “Hey… I got it!! We’ll alienate both new AND old loyal users and utterly pss off EVERYONE with one huge untested ball of CRAP update!!”. I can’t even PLAY my content! It crashes on Roku as soon as I hit “play”… assuming I can GET that far! NASA couldn’t figure this out!! If they had 200 GENIUSES and ONE CAT working on the problem… they would go with the cat’s solution and just pee on the Plex server! It may be the only way to attain some sort of RELIEF from this festering pile of donkey dung “improvements” that you’ve pushed on us! I’ve been with you since the beginning, PLEX. I’m done now. This feels like a really bad government experiment that accidentally managed to break out of the quarantine lab. You suck.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? On top of other problems, the new app on Roku reports that my Plex Server cannot be found. The server is running, and nothing has changed. None of my local media is accessible. I rebooted the Plex Server machine, restarted the Roku, but the problem persists. My server is operational, and I can play media directly from the server app!

Same IGNORANT BS here.. I got a roku Tv that reboots when you try to get into the shows, the buttons FREEZE up..

The other Rokus the buttons Freeze then you have to exit and sometimes they reboot..

This is as STUPID as Microsoft, did they hire some of them MORONS?

Is this issue specifically affecting individuals with lifetime memberships? If so, there may be legal avenues to explore in addressing the situation. Should this be confirmed, it would be wise to organize and consider pursuing a class action lawsuit. Plex has remained silent on this matter, despite the significant number of users reportedly impacted by this rollout. One would reasonably expect them to revert to a previous version of their app to alleviate the problems caused by the malfunction.

Same issue here. I can restart the Plex app from the Roku Home screen. Then the navigation works again for a little bit. It tends to get stuck inside of things. Like looking at the list of shows, it cannot move out to the alphabetical quick navigation.

Some shows that played before the update, just will not play. I can click the ‘watch’ button endlessly and get a sound from doing so, but nothing else happens.

A rollback and apology would go a long way.

Same experience here!

Can’t play a single thing now!

Not only can’t I play anything, If I even HOVER over “Libraries”, it dumps me right back to the Roku main screen.
