Plex App crashes while casting, spams PMS with requests

I’m experiencing strange issue when casting movies, music from Plex Web app, Plex iOS app or Home Assistant to Samsung 2019 TV. Playback starts fine and playback control works fine, but 3-4 minutes later seems like Plex Tizen app crashes and PMS drops the player. What is strange that movie keeps playing on TV outside Plex app(there is no Plex interface, can’t control playback when I press TV remote control buttons). Also after crash, movie is not showing in Plex Dashboard anymore . To stop movie I need to turn off and on TV. This behaviour does not appear when I start movie directly from Plex Tizen App.

Found a few lines in logs when player is dropped, but nothing more relevant. I’m attaching log file below with Logging to Media Server enabled in Plex Tizen App.

Already tried/didn’t help:

  • Deleting Plex App and installing again
  • Resetting TV to factory defaults

After some more investigation found a problem source. At first I thought it was okay to have such a massive log file, but then I realized that Plex TV app and device which casted the video, starts spamming server with GET and POST requests. It’s at least 100 requests in 1 second. This constant spam makes Plex App crash.

Any ideas what’s happening here?

Issue still exist with newest Client version 5.30.1.
Tizen Firmware version: 1392
Plex Media Server: 1.25.3.5409

Same issue with Client version 5.31.2.
Plex Media Server: 1.25.5.5492

I tried casting videos from Plex Media Server installed on Windows, but had similar experience like with Linux platform version.

If I’m the only one with this issue, maybe this bug affects only this 2019 model TV?

Well, seems like my assumption, that the issue only arises when media is casted from other device, was wrong.

Yesterday I was listening to classical music piece(1:14:29 length). After the track was over, next one in album was played automatically. After listening for some time, I noticed Plex interface was unresponsive when I wanted to pause track, but music kept playing just like I described in first post.

Checked logs - same situation, TV was flooding Plex server with requests which caused Plex app unresponsiveness. I attached logs below from the part when previous track was playing, ended and next track started. You can notice that before next track was played, there was 1 POST request per second. With next track, requests increased and kept increasing for 3 minutes until server dropped player.

I did some testing.

Downgraded Plex Media Server to 1.21.4.4079 (released 2021 February 26th)
Downgraded Plex TV app to 5.10.0 (released 2021 March 3rd)
Used manual server configuration to access PMS.

You might ask, how did I downgrade TV app?

  • Blocked *.plex.tv subdomains for my Samsung TV so it wouldn’t update to most recent version (5.33.1)
  • Reinstalled Plex App
  • Now you can check version information in app settings, it should be 5.10.0

I can confirm the main issue with casting is also present in 5.10.0 version.

I don’t experience this issue anymore! Well, 1 time out of like 30 tries issue appeared, but I’m still happy.

@sLumpy, was this addressed in recent app update? Looks like it wasn’t mentioned in changelog. I don’t know if it was update, or something changed in my setup.
