Server Version#: Version 1.28.0.5999 (probably irrelevant)
Player Version#: 10.10.1.5986
The Plex app on my Nvidia Shield Pro (which also acts as a PMS) has recently been crashing when browsing libraries. Specifically, when switching from the recommended tab to library tab or category tab, or vice versa. It seems to happen for all libraries at random. I do not have this problem when browsing the libraries on my Windows client or the iOS client on my iPhone. So this suggests the PMS is ok, and the problem lies in the Plex app on the Nvidia Shield Pro.
I reproduced the problem by launching the app at 9:52, waited a minute, and then at 9:55 started browsing libraries and it crashed almost instantly:
shield logs.txt (2.4 KB)
So the relevant part of the log is this:
Mar 11, 2024 09:55:07.397 [10518] DEBUG - handleStreamRead code 1: stream truncated
Mar 11, 2024 09:55:07.397 [10518] DEBUG - NotificationStream: Removing because of error
How to investigate further?
I have already turned on the debug logging.
Note that the Plex app is not crashing at all during video playback. It’s only happening when switching library views.

I have the same problem and it’s still there on newest version 3rd of April.
I rolled back to the January version and it works fine.
Hi,
Thanks for the report. We’ve found the crash you’re experiencing and we’ll look into it.

I also have the same problem. Only started happening today. On latest version on Nvidia Shield Pro 2019.
Hi
Can you let me know how you did this please?
Thank you
I uninstalled Plex. You will lose all settings. I only use it as client so there are only a few settings to change.
Then I went here Plex: Stream Movies & TV 10.8.0.5554 APK Download by Plex, Inc. - APKMirror and downloaded and installed the nodpi version.

Still broken in 10.13.0.466. I’d roll back, but then I need to figure out a way for the app to stop automatically updating back to the new/broken version!
Still broken on the 6th of May update. Any idea of what the problem is and if there will be a solution?
Thank you for noting this issue.
Still broken as of May 8th, 2024…more than 30 days since this serious bug was reported.
Is this what we are to expect from Plex after paying for a Lifetime Subscription?
Very dissapointed in Plex’s Technical Support Team not knowing how to fix this blantant problem.
I can confirm that this does fix the problem.
I cleared the Data and Cache, Uninstalled all updates then installed the nodpi version from APKMirror as @Nrsobal suggested.
The installed version now shows as 10.8.0.5554 and everything works as it should.
To anyone else using this workaround, remember to turn off Auto Updates or it will just update to the current broken version again.
Rolled back to 10.8.0.5554 nodpi and it works. And after spending an inordinate amount of time looking in the app’s settings itself, and then the Shield settings, I finally figured you need to go to the Google Play store to disable auto-updates.
For anyone else who’s feeling a little dense: go into the Google Play store, go to the upper left to your user icon, then you can disable auto-updates there. Sadly it’s all-or-nothing for auto-updates.

10.14.0.whatever was broken even WORSE. All my tabs reset to Recommended and if I switched to Library it crashes every time, and then resets me back to Recommended.
At least before on 10.13, it saved I was on the Library tab and I could actually see my libraries 50% of the time… now I can’t even do that.

As part of 10.14.0 we’ve fixed the behaviour of the Remember Selected Tab
. It was OFF
by default, but the app was not respecting that. It is located in the Experience row in setttings, if you switch it to ON
, it should behave like it did previously.
I will bump the priority of the fix as the crash seems to have increased in numbers. Thank you for your patience.

I have Tried the following fixes
rolled back app to
10.7 various
10.8 various
10.10 various
ect. all the way up to current version of 10.14 latest
uninstalled updates and cleared data
in between each and made sure remember library was turned on
but app still closes when I click the library tab on each folder some
after restating it will work for 1 or 2
folders then after that the behavior starts again it would be ok if there was a way to be able to select the default folder view in settings to
library, recommended, ect instead of ot defaulting to recommended.
does anyone else agree?
How long till we can expect a fix? Been an issue for over a month now…
