Plex app does not save to external storage on Chromebook running Android app

Chromebook running the Android app. I have configured Settings > Downloads > Storage location to “External” which is an SD card inserted into the Chromebook that Android can see. Plex does not save downloads to it, the used storage is 0 KB and all downloads seem to go to the “Internal” storage regardless of the setting.

I think Android apps may need to be configured to request some special storage access to be able to write to the external SD card. Does that sound right? Can the Plex Android apps be fixed to support it?
