I’m having a persistent issue with the Plex app on my LG OLED CX TV.
When I open the app, it immediately shows the following error:
"Network Unavailable – Make sure your device is connected to your network and has a working internet connection"
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
The TV is connected to the internet (YouTube and other apps work fine)
Time settings are set to automatic
I rebooted both the TV and router (power off for 60+ seconds)
Deleted and reinstalled the Plex app multiple times
Changed DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS)
Disabled IPv6 on the TV — no change
Confirmed that my Plex Media Server is up and running (accessible from other devices, including web app and my parents' TV)
Tested Plex through the Web Browser on the TV — and it works fine
Tried to use a different Plex account, but the app crashes before any login screen shows up
The version number displayed in the LG Content Store is not the right number.
The correct version number is available in the Plex app settings or via Authorized Devices. You should have v5.89.1.
The app in the Content Store is not the full version. It is a simple bootloader app. When you launch the Plex LG app, the bootloader checks if an update is available and if on is, then it, downloads the full, current version from hosts at plex.tv.
The bootloader rarely needs updating. That is why the version listed in the Content Store is incorrect.
Oh ok I understand, thank for your answer !
So I check on Authorized Devices, because on the Plex app I am stuck on the error message, and I am in version 5.91.0
Great thanks, it’s a good lead !
But I did nothing about that, so how it is possible ?! And even if I deleted and reinstalled Plex, it came back with this corrupt version…
I also unplugged the TV more than 60 sec after deleted the app because I read somewhere it erases the cache.
And now do you have an idea about how can I downgrade to the valid version ?
Ok, just spun up my LG tv and it loads the app fine. Version 5.91.0 with the 5.4.0 loader.
Check the internet settings of the tv. Maybe something changed. I have my tv wired and ipv6 off. I also have wifi not connected. If you have both connections, that could cause issues too.
I have tv wired too but I had ipv6 and wifi enabled (wifi is enabled but not connected).
So I disabled ipv6 and wifi, deleted the Plex app, turned off the tv, unplugged it for 60sec and reinstalled it to be sure but still the same message when starting the app…
My parents have the same TV you mentioned and the Plex app is stuck on the “Network Unavailable” message. Tried uninstalling the app, doing a re-install and rebooting the router but the TV halts on the same message after startup. Plex works fine on my LG C2 though, so it could be something exclusive to this particular LG series.
At least it’s reassuring to see that it’s not just a problem for my TV.
I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
Thanks all for help, I’ll keep the topic open if someone comes up with a solution, or I’ll close it if an update fixes the problem.
