Plex apps unable to start media files

So I have an updated DS1821+ running DSM 7. I’ve read a number of posts with the issues and how to get Plex up and running. I saw that they are not using the plex user and set the permissions accordingly. I’ve followed the instructions now a few times and while my clients can see the servers and browse the video files (the show music will play, I get the metadata etc…) when I attempt to play anything I get the error: “An error occurred while trying to play this video…”

Now on any local PC or on a cell phone logged into the apps.plex.tv (connected to wifi) I can play my videos just fine. I’ve removed the server reinstalled, used the Package Center and Docker versions and I still get the same. Doesn’t matter what client I use. I even tried to get PMS running on my nvidia shield but it also can not access it even when I make sure that it has perms to storage and I even tried mapping the network shares under the root account.

Sorry for the delayed response, had to do some travelling for work. I ended up reinstalling Plex using the Wundertech walkthrough and for whatever reason it’s working now! Just wanted to report back and thank you for taking your time to answer my request for help, really appreciate it.

Where can I find the Wudertech walkthrough. My Plex works in DSM 7 under Windows but none of the clients (Nvidia Shield) can watch videos. Plex on the shield starts and I can see all the content but when I attempt to play anything I get the error: “An error occurred while trying to play this video… Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks. I have already tried that but hasn’t fixed it. For some reason nvidia shield doesn’t have access even though plex works fine on the computer.

Rebooted everything and changed ethernet to position 1. uninstalled plex and tried fresh install.

The Plex says its a Beta. When I do the install there isn’t an option to Install using Plex Claim token. It just asks for the log file and then it installs.

I thought I did that. However whatever I did, it’s working now. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Much appreciated. Plex is our main TV source. We freak out when it isn’t working and have to use Netflix.
