Plex Arcade won’t close games in iOS and Apple TV

So I have plex arcade up and running with NES, SNES and N64 games all working.

They work fine in a web browser. You can exit from one game/console/core to the next because you have the option to “x” out the game and properly close down the game and move on to the next.

On iOS and Apple TV there is NO option to properly close the game and start a new game or switch between games. When you go out of a game and enter a new game/console/core the server doesn’t know that you have stopped playing the game and will not allow you to open a new game, switch cores etc. You have to restart the server manually which is a pain in the a$$. On a new server reboot games will load in iOS and Apple TV but again as soon as you switch games/cores the server coughs and doesn’t know that you’ve exited a game.

Please add a function to close games on iOS and Apple TV. This will fix this issue and make using the gaming service the cats ass and worth the money.

we definitely want it to be the :cat:'s derrière.

doesn’t using the back button on the apple tv remote quit the game?

what server platform are you using?

I’ve found the AppleTV remote does work for exiting games, but it took awhile to figure out as I cant get any game controllers to work, but realized the AppleTV remote still does play/pause/exit.

Server is running on a Windows 10 PC.

You can back out of a game on both iOS and tvOSbut when you do so the server still thinks the game is playing (shows as such on the dash board in the web app). There is no way to force close the game that is active from the dash board either. So you have to restart the server to kill the game.

When playing a game in a chrome browser for example you are given the option to “x” / close the game which it does and the server response accordingly.

An option to force close should be added to iOS and tvOS to force close a game; or the code should be updated to close the game when you “hit the back” button/menu button of tvOS and same for iOS. The game needs to formally close; if you switch from one platform to the next a new core needs to load but plex arcade will not allow that to happen if the server thinks a game is in progress.

You could amend the code to force kill any open cores/games when a new game/platform/core is chosen thus forcing the server to recognize that a game has stopped and new one has begun.

Once this is implemented it will be smooth sailing.

Food for thought: a user how to guide would be useful for those not used to manually installing cores might be helpful for those struggling to understand how to add additional cores and their own rom sets.

yeah that’s what should be happening, but we’ve got this on the list to check/fix.

like this? https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-game-files-and-cores/

Beauty! Looking forward to the fix.

Keep up the great work. My entire family loves plex!
