Plex Arcade?

Mupen64 isn’t working properly. You’ll have to use Parallel core, if you’re not already.

What really concerns me is that they released this new paying feature without enough beta testing. It’s quite shameful and I’m concerned about their plans for the future: implementing features and correcting bugs as the community ask or going beyond bits of paywalls for every new (bugged) feature?
This review is explaining why this is a fail: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/01/plex-adds-game-streaming-as-paid-add-on-completely-botches-the-landing/

Yep, it’s a cool addition but it certainly lacks the testing and features behind it, judging by the transcorder crashes / compatibility issues, it’s just currently a proof of concept for me

I’m also legitimately questionning about the legacy of Plex Arcade, while it’s a cool feature since it’s a partnership with Atari to begin with, I’m quite sure Nintendo ninjas are about to sneak strike DMCA this because of their rom / emulation policy and Plex becoming an “illegal Nintendo rom” host / stream service since you can load your own emulators / roms

I managed to get it all working. However, after I’ve played one game and then try to launch another game it won’t launch it. I then try and play some media and it sits there.
If I kill the Plex Media Server on my PC it then won’t re-launch until I do a reset.
Anyone else having this issue?

Yes but using that core caused the game to go black and white, obviously I’d prefer the more accurate core

Honestly was looking forward to it gave it a try with the free trial, And it is not worth $0.10. if it was a free add-on to plex sure, but with that much work just to maybe get it working but probably just end up with an unknown error is not worth paying for. There are tons of free emulators I can do this for for free, that work way easier. Audiobooks are a much more important update than this.

I have followed along with this thread because this is the error I am getting. I am still getting this error.

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
<Mappings>
<Mapping
    platform="Super Nintendo Entertainment System"
    core=snes9x_libretro.dll"
/>
</Mappings>

Theres my XML file.

Heres my log filePlex Media Server Logs_2021-01-27_06-36-28.zip (6.8 MB)

To be specific I am getting “The core mapping file is missing or invalid. Error Code 8011 (Game Setup)”

Anyone can share with us RetroCores.xml with all supporting systems mappings?

Thanks

NO ONE PAY FOR THIS

Retroarch is coming as a plugin to plex so this will be obsolete pretty quickly

Too defend PLEX some on the fee (by the way, love the concept of this feature, not a fan of the execution of this feature…at all) (and there’s no way I’m paying for this in its current state) , PLEX is a company and has corporate laws they HAVE to follow.

There’s a huge difference when single users (non-corporate entities) use other’s code verses when companies use it. Not sure why PLEX choose Parsec instead of creating their own tech/logic or using open source code but that’s above my pay grade! Here’s hoping this gets baked in better and will be as easy to setup like the movie and tv show libraries!

As a long-time user of Plex and also a user of RetroArch in various forms, I was kind of excited to see this functionality make its way into Plex. (Whoa, I could ditch all this extra hardware I have and just use a Plex player?)

Alas, there are way too many limitations. Doesn’t work on Linux server (I have a multitude of Plex servers, all Linux or FreeBSD), per-user subscriber fee, have to create an account link with a third-party, etc.

To me, the advantage of having this on Plex is the ability to share it with my users. But that advantage is negated by making them jump through a bunch of hoops and pay an additional fee. That said, I’d be happy to pay an additional monthly fee if it meant I didn’t have to make my users pay and go through the setup.

I will be following the development of this project, but as it stands now I can’t even test it out.

+1 for these: Ditch Parsec, change the fee structure, add Linux support. FTW!

For people with black screen. Unzip the roms.
SuperMarioWorld.zip -----> Black screen
SuperMarioWorld.sfc -----> Works great
(Snes9x core)

(Sorry for my bad english)

I see a lot of people here complaining about the monthly fee, or saying that “nobody asked for this”… First of all, it’s only 3 bucks, and its an optional service. And I have definitely “asked” for this. For YEARS. You know how many times I’ve said “I wish there was a PLEX for emulation”??? To me this is the holy grail. There’s 4 people here at our house that want access to ROMs and emulators and the best thing we came up with was a Launchbox installation that we then clone/sync to other computers through our LAN. That way I can curate our emulator/ROM collection and then share it with them, but that’s convoluted, and a pain in the ass. THIS has potential, PLEX is already magical, and the way it has transformed our media-consumption habits has been tectonic. So I’m happy to be a beta, hell, ALPHA tester for this, because I can only imagine how much it will improve in the weeks or months ahead.

Now, here are some of the issues I’ve encountered:

1- Bundled ATARI games wouldn’t download // Turns out that PLEX arcade doesn’t exactly like non-standard PMS installation paths. I was able to resolve this by downloading the games directly from a link provided in this forum and copying/moving them to the correct location. After that PLEX found the games and they ran fine.

2- Encountered a network error // Turns out I just had to create a Windows Firewall exclusion on the server side (there was a prompt to do just that which I couldn’t see on the computer I was streaming to).

3- ROMs weren’t detected // Genesis ROMs in a “Sega Genesis” folder weren’t detected. I renamed the folder to just “Genesis” and PLEX found them.

4- No automatic core download // When I tried to run one of the Genesis games it said there was no core. I had to track down the correct core, copy it into the Game Cores folder and then edit the RetroCores.xml file. THAT is unacceptable for an average user. I shouldn’t have to manually download RetroArch cores (or just copy them in my case) and edit XML files for this thing to work. I’m CERTAIN all of this will become automated in the near future, it has to be.

5- SOOOO BLURRY… // This is also unacceptable. Is the game streaming from my server in my local LAN? or is this streaming from the web? Why is it so blurry!? If I can stream a 45GB 4K movie with direct play on my LAN then I should be able to see a crisp image of Sonic the freakin’ Hedgehog. C’mon. This HAS to be addressed too.

The lack of Linux support is a non-starter for me.

I am concerned that this represents a bifurcation of Plex PMS features by platform. One of Plex’s best features is that it is accessible on just about every platform.

I seem to have everything working, but on any game the sound is choppy and unbearable. i am sure that it is just a setting if i could change the settings of the core probably, but i am not sure where to do that. Any one else having choppy sound issues?

I’m getting this error, anybody know how to fix? I already allowed it through the firewall…

"Network configuration prevents direct connection to game session.

Error code: -6200 (Network)"
