Plex Arcade?

but parsec is free and so is retroarch.
Could you explain why one would want to pay for a service on top of a 200 dollar plex pass when the common ways to play retro games are all free along with the very backend you are using to stream them?

Yes, the xml file was already present in the plugins support folder.

I am adding new ROMS but they are displaying horizontally when playing instead of vertically… does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Sure, if you want to load and run it yourself. Plex, as a company, has to license this stuff.

@dmaker-plex And you’ve added the core to the Games Core folder?

Edit - Can you get me the log from PMS after recreating the error.

this is a nightmare i wouldnt mind paying for it, but if i have to jump through these kind of hoops to get anything to work and im paying for it…no thx. added roms no problem tried all this edit xml file add core stuff in . its like another language to me. and alot of people will feel the same way, if your going to charge me it better be simple. if i have to do all this stuff then it should be free.

Reading the newly updated documentation I’m still a bit confused. I have a couple questions:

  1. Does this still require a subscription IF I DO NOT select “Include dozens of games” option and I reference my own ROMs when setting up the game library?
  2. If the subscription is still required for running my own ROMs, why? Does PLEX send my ROM over the internet to get “transcoded/emulated” by the vendor?
  3. Is there a roadmap for future supported devices / OSs?

I LOVE the concept of this feature but the purpose of PLEX (my opinion and a user for years now) is to use my OWN media for free. I look forward to seeing where this lands

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-01-26_14-44-10.zip (4.4 MB)

1 - Yes. A Plex Arcade subscription is required even for your own games
2 - The tech to play games is licensed ($$$) from Parsec
3 - Plex does not release roadmaps but if this does take off, Plex would like to expand the feature

Gotcha! +1 vote for Ubuntu OS and Roku device support if your tracking interest. Thanks :metal:

@dmaker-plex PMS is complaining about the XML file. Are you using tabs? If so, try replacing them with spaces.

added games and cores, but when i open a game i just get a black screen. sound is playing sometimes.

I did use tabs, yes. I backspaced and used space bar, but still get the same error message.

@dmaker-plex Can you PM me the XML file? Change the extension to txt.

Check if the “Plex Game Transcoder” is running. Sometimes this gets stuck. Close it and try the game again.

Please note that some games just might not work. If you PM me details on what game, I can try to reproduce.

Very cool stuff! I was wondering if I could also change other libretro setting like video resolution. The image I am getting now is quite blurry. Thankss :grinning:

Ok now I have calmed down a bit and read more, I am also having problems with using my own core. I have updated the xml but I still get a error when I try to play a rom.

Also any news one why the Atari stuff is not showing?

morpheus, do you have two folders in your Game library? You should have the default one for the Atari stuff, and then whatever other one(s) for your own roms.

Nope there doesn’t seem to be anything other then my folder, that’s only go 1 rom in it for testing

I think this might be your issue. I recall reading earlier that during install if you try to merge the default Atari stuff with your own roms, then the Atari stuff will not work. You need the default, and then add your own rom folders.

Not sure how to fix it now.

EDIT: If it helps, my default folder is:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Games
