Plex auto-corrects album artist to wrong artist and refuses to allow me to change it

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488
Player Version#: 3.77.2

So, in Plex I have a single album by the band Horna. If I add a couple of albums from the (different) band Horn, and then have Plex Scan Library Files, it will find the new albums, but say that the album artist is Horna. If I try to manually edit the metadata in Plex and change the album artist back to Horn, Plex loads for a moment and then completely ignores my change and just returns the album to Horna.

I have absolutely no idea why this happens, but it is infuriating and has so far caused me to completely remove the offending albums from Plex.
Any idea why this is happening?

Thank you! It took a bit of fernagling, but the Fix Match ended up solving the problem

So what I’ve gathered is that Plex really isn’t all that bright, and you have to do a lot of its job for it.

Plex Media Server streams media files
HandBrake and MkvToolnix prepare video files
Magic MP3Tagger, iTunes, and Picard are 3 of the plethora of music tagging / identification programs available.

Plex is fairly smart but it cannot handle everything the PEBKAC might provide.

Are you insinuating that my tagging errors were examples of PEBKAC? Because if so, I very much disagree with that notion.

I’m not an idiot, I made sure everything was tagged correctly using Picard, etc., and it was picked up successfully by other music players. Plex was the only one ignoring the tags in the file itself, and preferring Last.fm’s evidently erroneous) auto-correcting tagging function.

I love Plex and its tagging 99% of the time, but that 1% can be a hell of a challenge to correct.

I’m sorry, not you. I should have directed my post at the specific poster.

(I don’t take kindly to trolls swooping in and sniping. I tend to blow up such freeloaders first and ask questions later). It is much easier to ask for forgiveness than permision. :smiling_imp:

@CowardGreen

I have a few tracks, also named and tagged with Picard, which Last.FM does not get right. Plex get’s it right then Last.FM comes along later and messes up (It’s community driven)

I only have 28,000 tracks so it’s no big deal.

I use Plex for movies and television more than music.

No problem

And I collect a lot of obscure black metal-records so maybe that’s why I tend to get this issue more than most.

(Also, while on the issue of Last.fm, I seriously hate people who tag artists as ā€˜Seen live’ or ā€˜Legends’ only to have those tags bleed over into my collection as genres >_<)

I have a collection of aluminum studio masters which aren’t on any listing.

Agreed… ā€œLast.FMā€ , IMO, should be replaced by an industry one.
