For some reason, Plex refuses to let me rename some music I have for a particular artist. In this instance, Japanese artist Yajima Mai. Instead, Plex renames the artist as 矢島舞美 instead. I want it to read ‘Yajima Mai’ because it’s easier for me to identify as someone who doesn’t read Japanese kanji, despite being a fan of a lot of Japanese music. No matter how many times I edit the properties of the CD I have ripped, and despite having explicitly used my tagging software to put ‘Yajima Mai’ in as the artist name, Plex changes it. Anyone know of a way to prevent Plex from hijacking the artist’s name and allowing me to set it the way I want it to be?
Edit: I’m ripping my music to AAC/M4A format, and using Mp3Tag software to do the initial tagging, then cleaning up stuff in Plex once it’s in the library.
Enable “Prefer local metatags” in the properties of your music library.
Warning: doing so will wreak havoc in your library if your folder structure and the embedded meta tags are not in immaculate shape.
Most important: there is a difference between the “Album Artist” and the “[Track] Artist”.
Plex uses pretty much only the Album Artist.
The folder structure must follow the Album Artist.
Example for a multi-disc album. Notice the presence of disc # meta tags and the presence of both Album Artist and Track Artist meta tags.
The Album Title meta tag has identical content for both discs!
