Hi,
Please be patient, I need any advice at all because it’s driving me nuts.
** Server Details **
Windows 10 Pro
i5 7600k (Intel quicksync enabled and attempted disabled too)
8GB GDDR4 RAM
x3 WD RED HDD’s in Drivepool
x1 500GB Samsung Evo 850 SSD (Which is the home for Plex, transcoding and metadata).
Long story short my Plex server becomes incredibly sluggish and un-responsive around and about an uptime of 24+ or so hours. By sluggish I mean, album arts can be slow to populate if ever, scanning tasks seem never ending if they were to be run. Playback completely hangs without ever starting, both over the WAN or LAN. Tautulli is sluggish at times and struggles to report any playback information from Plex when it’s attempting to even play,.
Before anyone says anything, this applies to the entire server, WAN and LAN. But I’ve been trying to work out the problem over LAN as it provides ideal conditions. All content I attempt can direct play, no transcoding. Transcoding content hasn’t got a chance in hell of even starting. I can ping my server locally and there is no connection issues. I ran an iPerf3 test and got nearly 1000MB/s speeds.
I run Stablebit Drivepool, and can see Plex accessing the disks briefly then stopping, no playback. Prior to this I ran Windows Storage Spaces and that was even slower. I switched to Drivepool thinking it was my Storage Spaces slowing down the server. I’ve trawled through the Plex logs and not found anything definitive. No errors, nothing, just repeated successful attempts to begin playing the media (It seems. It’s kinda hard to interpret).
Sometimes killing the Plex service, waiting and restarting it again will help kick start playback issues. But the server still just behaves really, crappy? It’s only when I FULLY REBOOT my entire server that Plex springs back into life as if it was brand new.
I’ve looked at the Windows Event logs but I don’t even know what I’m looking for.
Does anybody have any idea whatsoever why it might be doing this. Everytime someone tries to play something I get a text saying it’s constant buffering, I restart the server remotely, login and bam they’re fine. It’s not really a server when it can’t even have a lengthy uptime…
