Plex becomes unavailable and informs you that it cannot make secure connections

Hey guys.

Since I’ve updated to stable Version 1.16.5.1554 I’ve had this issue you describe. My Plex becomes unavailable and almost only allows indirect access, both on WAN and LAN. I’ve tried to change DNS on my server, clients etc. I have a static IP and static port forward. and have been working perfectly, but since that last update, it doesn’t work very well, it seems like, then it works, then it comes back. And I can’t play at full quality any longer.

@xxthrillxx how do you roll back ?

Just an update:

I run Windows 10, with Plex media server installed on it.
I have just tried to roll back to Version 1.16.5.1488 ( Found a guide online how to roll back to previous installed versions )

I’m still having the issue. My connection is Indirect. It makes no sense, I think this was the version I had before the latest release. Which worked perfectly.

Sorry for keep spamming.

I have tested the following:

Google chrome, Firefox and Edge on 2 different PC’s on the same LAN my server is on. Indirect access on ALL of them. One pc is protected with DNS antivirus, the other isn’t.

My LG tv and Android can play secure Direct playback. no problems.

Could it be a Windows update doing this perhaps?

I have an old laptop that is most likely not updated, I will test and get back.

@Twikkilol No need to apologize, I’m testing a version and checking if it is stable, as soon as it has a positive result I will post the feedback.

Hey there.

It seems like I still experience it from time to time. My users report that they can’t connect, sometimes it’s just for a short while. and I can see I still get indirect connections.

I have changed: “Threat WAN as LAN” to on, and disabled Automatically change quality (BETA) now. and see if that helps. I’m still running version : 1.16.5.1488

I might try a version older.

I have installed the 1.16.2.1421 as @xxthrillxx suggested.

I can report back if anyone is interested.

Running Windows 10 btw.

did this work for you?

Haven’t had any issues so far. I can let you know if I do

awesome! glad to hear it!

Hey guys.

I just noticed it happens again still.

It seems like it’s only in the evenings so far.

It makes no sense. I really don’t get it.

I had two quick occurrences waiting a little longer to give more detailed feedback.

Hey Thon.

please let me know how it goes.

I have had the issue the last couple of days.

I am trying to disable different things. every time I experience it again, I try to disable something more.

This time I disabled IPv6, and made sure it has a static entry in my router. I also changed my DNS to googles. However, I still have antivirus and DNS protection on my server. That will be the next thing I disable.

So far so good.

Apparently everything is working for now.

Changes:

I disabled IPV6

Manual door on the PLEX 32400

I removed the contents of the Codecs folder and everything from the Cache folder.

I deleted the Preferences.xml file

I restarted the server. So far working.

Hello Thon.

Thank you for your experience, I will try that.
I have JUST had the issue again at exactly 20.00 I was watching a movie, and at exactly 20.00 it started showing Indirect connections.

This is my timezone:

I have now removed my DNS protection on the server, and manually specified a port.

Everything works fine for me now. I believe this problem to be resolved should remove the preferences.xml file and all certificates from the cache folder so that the system republishes the server.

Hi Thon,

After made a manual port, and removed my DNS protection. I have not had ANY issues what so ever. I’m keeping this setup, and never updating agian… lol

Hi! @Twikkilol Great news, everything is normal here too.
