I’m sorry to tell that, but I’m really annoyed by how Plex works lately.
I’ve got linux home server on public ip address with portforwarding active, GPU and plexpass. My bandwidth is 500mbps down/350mbps up, My server (both plexmediaserver and system itself) shows no errors, and I’m 25+ years linux admin so I can take care of my systems. // that’s just to stop “please try turning off and on”
I used to watch my collection from different places while travelling or being at other apartment, with chromecast mainly.
For few months now it became less and less reliable. It took several attempts to just start playback, playing around with restart, etc.
Just yesterday I could not start a movie on my chromecast in a proper way at all.
For mobile client it started but with no option to change playback params, subtitles (even pre-selected) were not shown.
Trying from web client on chrome (macos), first, it was very unreliable with detecting chromecast, in all same network. Next, when I tried to start playback, it just spinned and if i try to change videostream params (or touch anything at all), it just closed playback window with “error happened” message. I tried it several times.
Needless to say no diagnostics available. Nothing in plex server logs, nothing in system logs. Verbose logs are on.
Netflix is working just fine in same network and setup, so it’s not my chromecast/network setup issue.
I’m now really pissed off as that stuff almost ruined my weekend evening, and considering just dropping it at all for alternatives.
I used to pay monthly subscription under “let’s pay people for doing nice thing”, but it’s not a nice thing for me anymore.
