Server Version#: v.1.40.0.7998-c29d4c0c8 February 13, 2024
Player Version#:
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
Every time I install the latest version of Plex (Feb 13 2024) It breaks my library and shows no content. I can’t add a new library, Plex will see my content scan it and go through the process of “adding” it but at the end there is nothing there. I’ve done this several times and waited for the final result.
I have also restored from Time Machine 3 times this morning back to Version 1.32.8.7639. Each time My Jan 31 files for
Plex Server App
Plex Server (applications support)
Plexmediaserver.plist (preferences)
have been restored Plex will start working again.
When I upgraded to the Feb 13 latest update:
I have installed from within the Server web page (following the notification that there is a server update). This broke Plex libraries, so I then restored from TM, then-
Installed a fresh version of Plex downloaded straight from the Plex downloads page. Everything broke again. So I restored from TM backup.
Once everything was working again after restore I tried the Plex Server from the the downloads page again. It keeps breaking the library.
I have restored everything back to Version 1.32.8.7639 and Jan 31 files using TM.
Does anyone have any suggestions what is going wrong here?
Is it a problem on Plex’s end? Is there something broken about the Feb 13 update?
Is there a way to overcome this?
If this continues to be a problem how can I identify if there is a problem with my:
preference file, or Plex Media Cache or something else and how can I fix?
Am I stuck and cannot upgrade… ever? Is there a way to overcome this?
Yes logs from when it’s broken. I also don’t understand what broken means. You haven’t provided anything useful to understand what it is you’re seeing or what is happening. “Broken” is too vague and not helpful. You need to be more specific, maybe provide a screenshot and definitely provide your server logs.
Broken
Broken: After upgrading none of my libraries are accessible. There is no content shown. Also adding new libraries is as stated above - Plex sees all my content on the drive and will scan and state it is “adding” but nothing results - empty library that cannot be deleted and a message stating “were you expecting content here …” or words to that affect.
Plex is broken.
After restore of #### Version 1.32.8.7639 from Time Machine
working again
I’ve just restored #### Version 1.32.8.7639 and all the associated files, back to before the Plex update was installed. Plex is working again but the later update causes Plex to be broken.
Version 1.40.0.7998 is broken and does not work.
Installing from within the Web server page or from the Plex Downloads page results in a non functioning Plex.
Are you using app.plex.tv or the bundled Web app (localhost:34200) to access your server? Are you accessing your server without authentication (server setting to allow specific IP address to access the server without authentication)?
app.plex.tv -? yes? Whatever 2x opening the Plex Media Server app does (takes me to a webpage)
I use the Plex Media Server app on my Mac only.
I can access my content from outside the network using Prologue and Prism without problems (until I use your latest Plex Server App upgrade v.1.40.0.7998)
Unsure about your last question. Let me know where to check and I’ll confirm for you.
I have my own Music + Audiobooks library. They’re all organised to Plex’s requirements and I use my own artwork etc. Everything is working fine until v.1.40.0.7998
What is the url in your browser say? It’ll either be app.plext.v or 127.0.0.1:32400 (bundled web app). Sounds like it’s the bundled web app. If you are opening the bundled web app and it’s showing the issue, then please try using app.plex.tv.
Actually as you are running on 1.32.8.7639 you could make the logging changes in Plex Web server settings rather than using terminal
So please enable both debug and verbose logging in server settings general with show advanced
restart the server on 1.32.8.7639 and try and do what is broken on 1.40.0 and then capture the server logs
Then update to 1.40.0.7998 and repeat the test. Describe what does not work and take screenshot and then capture the server logs
The logs you provided shows the following
Feb 15, 2024 16:46:14.154 1.32.8.7639
Feb 15, 2024 16:49:05.039 1.32.8.7639
Feb 15, 2024 16:59:02.621 1.32.8.7639
Feb 15, 2024 17:12:47.385 1.32.8.7639
Feb 16, 2024 11:00:10.511 1.40.0.7998
The minimal logging i have shows similar errors in the logs for all these periods. Hopefully the debug and verbose logging will show the problem
As an experiment - could you try changing the computer name to replace the foreign characters with english characters and relaunch on 1.40. to see if that makes a difference - capture logs again
Thanks
At the end of all log captures you can disable verbose logging leaving just debug logging enabled
Sorry for the multiple posts - I noticed this error in the logs
Feb 16, 2024 11:00:26.838 [0x288c03000] ERROR - Couldn't find the file to stream: /Applications/Plex Media Server.app/Contents/Resources/Plug-ins-c29d4c0c8/WebClient.bundle/Contents/Resources/js/chunk-8111-4eb8b68a0c1733a64313-plex-4.116.1.34633-acaef50.js
This happened because you had an old Plex Web session from before you upgraded to 1.40.0 - as we changed the Plex Web bundle in this version - this file was no longer present
So please exit all plex web browser sessions and start a fresh one after 1.40.0 upgrade and see if that gives different outcomes
When the bundled Plex Web version changes in Plex Media Server, need to ensure a fresh browser session is started
If the issue was to do with using an old browser session, then no need to go through the tests for machine name change
Hi Sa2000,
I’ve exited all Plex web browser sessions, signed out of Plex everywhere and then I cleared cache + cookies + terminated all Plex applications via Activity Monitor.
Then downloaded PlexMediaServer-1.40.0.7998-c29d4c0c8-universal and installed.
Plex now working, thank you again for your assistance. I’ll go through this process if needed on future installs.
If you would still like the Debug + Verbose logs please let me know. I have them ready to send.
Unfortunately when the bundled Plex Web app version changes, it is necessary to close all Plex Web bundled app browser sessions and start with a fresh one.
I would not mind verbose logs zip to see if there is a any impact to the use of the non English characters for the computer name - suggest capturing the logs as follows
Enable both debug and verbose logging in the server settings
Exit Plex Media Server and then relaunch it
Wait about 10 mins and then capture the server logs zip
Provide the logs zip
Disable verbose logging and relaunch the server - to run normally
If the issue was because you were using an old existing Plex Web bundled app browser session, do you recall which web page you were on ? I understand a browser page refresh may actually have resolved the issue
