PlexMediaServer-1.41.2.9200-c6bbc1b53-universal BROKE LIBRARIES

Server Version#:
Player Version#: tell me where to find it and I’ll update
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

I have successfully restored Version 1.40.1.8227 But by G it is a massive pain to have to do this every update that is released without testing.
I keep posting about the same thing, every time there is a Plex update it breaks libraries and my only option is to restore to an older version. Can anyone suggest a way forward?
Updating from within the webbroswer page - installing update BREAKS the Mac Server
Downloading the universal from the Plex download page, fully closing PLEX server and clearing all safari cache Plex cookies etc STILL results in no access to libraries.

Each update is broken / and breaks our libraries.
Is there any way forward?

Given there’s no major outcry with every release, it seems there’s some specific issue with your setup (which doesn’t make it less real for you).
Would you be able to share your server logs? The zip file should hopefully still contain the logs from before you restored the old version, when this happened).

[mod-edit: logs removed – I suppose that’s why you DM’d this response instead of posting here]

In order to restore and get Plex to working again I literally had to paste back old files and folders:
For ~/Library/Application Support : both Plex + Plex Media Server folders
For ~/Library/Caches : both Plex + Plex Media Server folders
For Macintosh HD/Applications : The previous working Plex server App ( Version 1.40.1.8227/ Plex Web Version 4.125.1)
For ~/Library/Preferences : the com file com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist

I only say that because I’m wondering if that would impact on the server logs you’ve requested? Ie it might not show the install and then restored information you are looking for.

I tried again to install the update via the web page Plex Settings > General > Download Updates.

The new version never loads. It installs, then never connects… Then If I quit and restart Plex I most often get the latest Plex app starting up then immediately crashing. or if it does not crash then All my libraries are empty.

That’s the same result if I download the full package from your downloads page and install.

If I can keep my track play history, book read history and any other user use content then I’m happy to wipe Plex completely and reinstall. Is there a way to not loose all my music play counts and book read counts etc etc, or restore this if I just wipe Plex and start over?
If I wipe and start over is there any other issues that I need to be aware of?

I’ve had this issue all year, have continually not been able to install the latest version of Plex and having to go back to the an old version - by the method I’ve outlined above.
Any suggestions welcome, thanks for your assistance.

On macOS, the logs reside in ~/Library/Logs, so we got a lucky shot.
The logs don’t show much, because you had disabled Debug logging – but they caught what’s causing your trouble.

It appears your database is corrupted – which might not get in the way on a day-to-day basis YET, but it’s getting in the way of the server upgrade applying changes to the server database structure.

Long story short – try to repair that database!!

You could also try to restore an old database backup (if scheduled jobs are configured to create them – no Time Machine backups). However, based on what you’ve described, the last “good backup” will probably be a bit dated.

Have been getting these warnings. Would this be because I’m on an older version of Plex server?
As soon as I hit retry it connects and shows it’s fully accessible, but then later goes back to “Not available outside your network”

That’s probably unrelated.
Remote access does a status test when you open the page or enable the feature – Plex will show a green status / success message while it’s performing this check.

With that in mind, it’s fair to assume your remote access isn’t working – at all.

Did you already have a look at the related troubleshooting support article?

There’s also a guide with some more details on how to troubleshoot remote access issues (there’s a lot of players / moving parts that can get in the way).
