Plex has been nigh-unusable for months for nearly all Nvidia Shield users w no word from management

I am writing here to place this issue on the public agenda. Not many of you guys frequent the Nvidia Shield subforums so not many of you would know that ever since an update several months back, the PMS on Nvidia Shield has not been functioning properly.

When playing any 1080p video, if its transcoded and not direct played, it will show “Your connection is not fast enough”

Please refer to this thread: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/261320/urgent-critical-showstopper-literally-bugs-after-recent-update#latest

Many plex users, myself included, are very annoyed by this fact. We have hardware that is rendered pretty useless because of a simple update. Plex has no official word and simply refuses to rollback to the last stable version for us too. I have cancelled my Plex Pass as a result.

I also see this “Your connection is not fast enough” message with my shield tv on occasion. Although it’s few and far between, I usually just reboot all my equipment (PC/Modem/Router/Shield) and it always seems to resolves the issue.

Plex experience with shield overall is pretty great though. I’m basically alternating between plex and youtube on a daily basis, and have been for… 2 years now? So I’m a little surprised other shield owners are running into so many issues.

You should really specify better in your title. You’re saying its unusable for shield users that use it as a server.

This has nothing to do with the shield as a client device, which is what I would wager most people use the shield for.

I should clarify in the post I made right before yours, I never use my shield tv as a server, which is probably why I’m not really running into the issues they are. I only use it to stream from my PC, which 99% of the time works pretty awesome.

FYI, As of Today, there was a workaround posted, see:

Basically in Settings > Server > Transcoder, @tony1016 says that when setting Segmented transcoder timeout, Transcoder default duration and Transcoder default throttle buffer to 0 (default was 20/120/60), the server is now transcoding the entire video in advance and this seems to solve the issue
