Plex cannot see that this 1 video exists

I have one video file downloaded from ABC iView (Australia). Plex simply does not see it and says that the folder is empty. I have tried coverting it to several different formats with different codecs, including mkv and avi, but Plex still does not see it. This has never happened before and I have thousands of files in my Plex library.

I am running Version 4.69.1 on Windows 10 home.

The mediainfo specs for the original file are below. I wonder if anyone can see anything in this that would explain the issue I am having.

What library type are you trying to put it in? I don’t see it in the TVDB, but it looks like it shows up as a movie on TMDB: A Dog's World with Tony Armstrong (TV Series 2022- ) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

Your file is labeled Episode 1 Friendship 2.mp4. The “Friendship 2” part makes me think that maybe the files you have is a breakup of this video. Is it in two parts? Three? One?

If it’s a two parter and this file isn’t showing up, but the “first” one is, then Plex may have auto-combined them into one entry. This is seen in the ** Movies Split Across Multiple Files** section of the following article: Naming and organizing your Movie files | Plex Support

If this happened, you can Get Info on the first file that Plex found, and it should list both files in it’s “source” location. If this happened, then changing the name of the file slightly to stop Plex from triggering it into combining it with the file is the next step.

If I am wildly off the mark, ignore all that I said, and let me know.

You need to follow Plex naming requirements.

Plex Dance the entire show after renaming and reorganizing the episodes. This removes incorrect information from the Plex database.

/TV Shows <-- TV Library points here. Name unimportant
.../A Dog's World with Tony Armstrong (2022) <-- show_name (year)
....../Season 01 <-- "Season" in English. Two digits for number.
........./A Dog's World with Tony Armstrong (2022) s01e01 Friendship.ext <-- ext = mkv/mp4/etc

Also, it is a new TV show not yet entered at TVDB.com. You will need to tell either the library or the show to use TMDB for episode information.

At the library level:

  1. Edit the Library (See support doc above)
  2. Choose Advanced
  3. Choose The Movie Database for Episode Ordering
  4. Refresh the metadata for the library.

At the show level:

  1. Edit the show (click on the pencil icon)
  2. Choose Advanced
  3. Choose The Movie Database (Aired) for Episode Ordering
  4. Refresh the metadata for the show

Thank you for the replies. Renaming the file seems to have fixed the problem. I do understand the importance of correct naming, but I have been getting slack lately as I haven’t hit any problems for a long time.

Regarding the detailed instructions, when I click on the pencil icon at the show level, I am not offered an “Advanced” option. Is this something that is restricted to the Premium edition?

At the library level, I already have The Movie Database selected for Episode Ordering.

That should work.

I’m not aware of it being a Plex Pass feature.

What do you see?

This is what I see:

You are editing one episode.
The Advanced tab is available when you edit the show as a whole.
