Plex cannot show newly added files, but existing ones are OK

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309 -f5213a238

I’m using Plex server on Synology NAS ds216j. There is a folder with existing episodes, which have rendered on Plex. Now I’m uploading a new file to the same folder, but Plex cannot show it somehow.

The same issue persists when I created a new folder with granted read/write permission, as in snapshot below:

When I tried to reset the library from Plex, this file does show up in the directory:

But it’s not rendering to the library, even after synology server restart.

Synology is biting you.

We always stress not using the default /video share .
Synology claims ownership of this share even if their products aren’t installed.
They end up blocking Plex , no matter what we do.

If you wish to make a /Media share and move everything from /video share
-or-
make a share for each library type (/movies, /television, /music, /photos, etc etc)

either method is valid.

If you need help moving while preserving your watched status, Please let me know.

I have the same issue. I’ve been using PMS on Synology DS-412+ for years and just suddenly from one day to the next (May 6) – with no changes being made – it stopped adding videos. I’ve tried every tweak suggested on various forum messages, but nothing works. The only odd thing I’ve noticed is that when I add a new folder, it reports “Changed have not been saved” and yet it adds (or removes) the folder. Plus, any new video in the new folder won’t add, either. I will try to move all videos to another folder, but please let me know how to preserved watched status. Thanks.

Thank you for the info.

However… after doing all the above, for every movie that I select “Get Info”, I see that it is still pointing to the old folder, and its says “Unavailable”.

As before I tried all the above, when I got to the Settings > Libraries > Movie > Edit > Add Folders and try to make any changes, after I click Save Changes, I get the message: Your changes could not be saved. That seems to be the fundamental problem I need to solve first. Any clues?

attached… thx.

Thanks for the logs. The problem was immediately found.

The automatic watch notifier list is full. Photos and Music will typically QUICKLY exhaust the default available space of 8192 folders…

This value needs to be increased.

The procedure is herer.

Ok, I tried that. After I finished restarting, I could no longer log-in to my Synology NAS. :frowning:

I reset the login, and have finally got back into it and changed the IP address to match the one it had before.

So… back to Plex. The problem hasn’t change at all. The most important point, I believe, is that when I try to change the Library folder, I get the message: Your changes could not be saved.

If I cannot change the library, then I’m stuck. Any scan it tries will be scanning the wrong folder.

Remember, I moved all my files away from “video”, inasmuch as I was lead to believe that might be the issue. So I did that, but now all my Plex links point to the old folder, and library scans don’t know where the file are, now, nor can I change where the library is without a “Your changes could not be saved.”

I’m really hosed.

Here’s something else that has happened that I can’t figure out. I used to be able to set a drive to my Backup folder. Been doing it for years. Now the backup folder doesn’t appear in File Station at all, but it’s still there (with a lock icon) in Control Panel > Shared Folder. And it never had encryption on it, but appears to now. I have zero idea how this happened, but worse, zero idea how to remove encryption from it and make it reappear in File Station (so I can set a drive to it).

I would raise that question to Synology. They might have seen it but I have not.

When this occurs:

  1. The Plex share isn’t owned by user plex:users or it doesn’t have full access
  2. There is a networking issue preventing authentication.

In 1.19.4 (being built now) are some changes to how the installation script runs.
Instead of trying to figure out what the permission should be, it will simply assert them. By doing so, it will make recovery / reload / damage correction behavior deterministic and 100% predictable.

I found a 6 year old backup key that I used to unlock it. Apparently, restarting to get a new password caused it to lock.

The plex user has read/write to “video”, to “Plex” and to the new volume I created, “PlexMedia”. So, I’m not sure what other kind of authentication I can give it. I’ve even run the process of “Apply to folder, sub-folder and files.”

Um, okay, but what does this have to do with my issue? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Nothing to do with your issue but thought that sometimes simplification makes some of these tasks easier. That’s all. Nothing else inferred or implied.

Since you have added the s2s_watches_max as per the FAQ,

may I see the new logs files ZIP please?

sure! attached…thanks!

Did you perform some sort of database restoration?

PMS is not showing me the expected restart sequence.

Instead, i’m seeing it attempt transaction completion for transactions which don’t exist.

Nope, I didn’t do anything outside of just trying to make it work via the menu selections.

It’s starting to look like I just need to delete this instance of Plex and re-start the whole thing. :frowning:

So, following the Repair Database instructions, I stopped the Plex service. Then, as instructed, I deleted /Plug-in Support/Databases/com.plexapp.plugins.library.db, and then I restarted Plex service.

The result is:

All my libraries are now gone.

When I try to create a movie library and point it to the proper folder, I unsurprisingly recieved the “Your changes could not be saved” error message.

Sigh.

It now looks like I have no choice but to recreate my entire install of Plex.

Thanks for your “help.”

Quoting from the article: " You can also simply delete the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db database file while the Plex Media Server is not running. Restarting the server will then restore your server to a nearly-fresh install state."

I was fine with recreating the Libraries, but since it won’t let me save folder information – which I was lead to believe deleting the .db file would solve through a rebuild – then I can’t do that. Thus: starting from scratch.
