Server Version#: 1.14.15490 (smb)
Player Version#:7.12.1.9314
I was using plex right before the shield update appeared. I applied the update and then it would not access the NAS afterwards. all my libraries that access the NAS are showing as unavailable.
the NAS is working. I can access it from Kodi/VLC and file managers on the shield so it appears to be be plex rerlated.
I suspect the “FIX” they added has ballsed it up but i also suspect plex needs an update to work with the “FIX” as everything else is working ok.
Please advise.
I hit some weird issues. PMS on Shield could no longer update the libraries but would otherwise still allow to play movies that were previously indexed.
Solution was to reset my Plex install
You might have to remount all shares from the shield to the nas. I have had to disconnect then re-mount the nas and reconnect. Also smb greater than 1 is/still broken for the most part as per nvidia in 7.2.3 if the plex media server resides on the shield. I run my pms on my 918+ nas and it does not have issues if smb is greater than one. Seems that bug only bits if pms is on the
shield.
Symptoms could include files unavailable, not being able to scan new content, playback greatly delayed or not at all. Kodi does not have this problem.
Setting the nas to smb1 and remounting the shares after will probably solve the issue.
My PMS versions:
Synology pms Version 1.15.1.791
Shield pms version Version 1.14.1.5490
FWIW, my Shield is using SMB3 and I haven’t noticed any problems. I’ve by no means performed extensive testing, but I have watched a three or four movies w/o issue since the 7.2.3 upgrade.
So you are running your pms on the shield with smb3? I cannot do that with my 2015 and 2017 shield . The pms running on the Synology is not a problem with smb3 as long as the pms is on the nas and not the shield.
Yes. PMS 1.14.1.5490 on a Shield Pro. DS918+ configured with SMB Max = SMB3, SMB Min = SMB2, and Transport Encryption disabled.
I ssh to the DS918+, as root issue smbstatus -S. It shows the Shield using SMB 3_00.
I don’t know if the transport encryption matters. I’ve always had it set to disabled. It is my home network, so I don’t need encryption. Also, transfers between my Win10 PC & the NAS are faster with encryption disabled.
PMS running on the Synology does not use SMB. It accesses the drives directly.
I also run PMS on the DS918+, currently v1.15.1.791. Having both lets me test new PMS releases with a backup in case the new release has issues. I only use Plex for movies & TV shows - no music/live TV/etc, so rare that a new release causes problems, but always nice to have a backup.
