Hi.
I have latest Plex PMS/PMS on MacOS 10.14.3. Every time when I add new episodes I have to open Plex Media Server and select “analyze metadata”. Otherwise PMP/PMS will not find the subtitle file (srt). Don’t you know, where could be the problem?
ps. Strange is that this problem is only with episodes, not with the movies.
Yes, my structure is OK. I have “TV show”/“Season #”/SxxExx.srt. The filename is the same as the movie. I tried also SxxExx.en.srt and it didn’t help. Its really strange.
I had “Season #” but changing to “Season ##” doesn’t help.
Example is:
Walking dead/Season S01/S01E01.mkv
Walking dead/Season S01/S01E01.srt
Strange is that Plex correctly find the episode, and agent gives me all the info about the episode. The only problem is with the subtitles which are ignored until I click “analyze metadata”.
Actually, there is no command ‘Analyze Metadata’.
There is ‘Analze’ and there is ‘Refresh Metadata’.
Analyze is the one you need.
Normally, Plex would perform it automatically, if it determines that something in the media folder has changed.
Why it doesn’t do that for you, may have to do with your media storage. I assume your media storage is not on a locally attached hard drive?
Very sorry, I have it in Czech language. The correct command is “refresh all metadata”. I have my data on USB extHDD (exFAT) because I’m using it also with Windows 10.
If the problem is extHDD, so why Plex recognize new movie and not new subtitles for the episode (for movies it works correctly).
How long did you wait for added subtitles to appear in Plex? Did you leave the preplay page of the episode while you added the subtitle file?
Are you unplugging the drive to add the subtitle file?
Episode subtitles will never appear in Plex. I have to “refresh all metadata” everytime.
Movie subtitles will appera immediately after adding movie+subtitles to the correct folder.
I tried restart Mac, PMP, PMS it didn’t help.
I’m not unplugging the drive, I just copy the subtitle file over network to the destination folder. But again, when I do that with movie, everything is OK, when I do that with episode, I have this specific problem.
I can reinstall whole PMS if that will help. Also I can save files directly (not over network) to the local drive. But I don’t know what else I can do .
Stay Awhile and Listen:
If you copy the subtitles when the movie is already in library, MacOS with extHDD (exFAT) will not find episode subtitles (it will find out, that there is a change in the directory, but nothing happens). If your subtitles will be analyzed with the movie, you will see them. So you have to copy them before the movie or in 2 secs after the movie. If you didn’t make it in that few seconds interval, then you have to “refresh all metadata” in your PMS.
This issue is only on USB extHDD (exFAT). I wasn’t able to replicate it on my local MacOS Journaled drive.
So my issue is still there, but now I know how to fight it :o)
