Plex cant find library

Server Version#: 1.28.0.5999
Player Version#: NOT SURE

I ranaserver update recentlyandnow whenever I try to connect to my personal library I get a message of “something went wrong. an unexpected error occurred”

I tried to delete the library but couldnt
I tried to upload it again from my external drive, also no luck

the external drive has about 1.64 tb of music that I uploaded about 8 months ago. everything was working fine until a week or two ago.

I have looked all over the site fdor help, tried deleting the library, checked all the settings, I am not sure what is going wrong.

If all else fails I guess I could delete my account and start over, but before I do that I wanted to post in the forums.

thank you

Have you already checked your server’s database for corruption? → Repair a Corrupted Database | Plex Support

Deleting your account won’t change an issue with your server; if you want to start over, use this support article instead → Restart Plex Media Server Setup from Scratch | Plex Support

thanks for the tips but no luck … tried both and still getting that unexpected error. bummer

If you still have one from before it. happened you can try to restore a database backup

Else we may need to look at the server logs to figure out. what is going on.

yeah without server logs its hard to troubleshoot.

thank you, I downloaded the logs. I’m not sure how to read them though, can you help?

Your hard drive is starting to fail Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

Also seeing some Access is denied messages while renaming/moving files.

ugh, that’s no good. running this off a very old laptop that I dont really use for anything else, but it looks like it’s not going to last much longer. i’m not the most tech savvy, anything I can do to fix it? or fix the denied access?

Replace the hard drive

Appears to be related to the “Clean Bundles” - will follow this up.

@kenh25 This is the main problem that needs to be looked into

I would expect you to see Disc Errors in the Windows System Event Log for the Drive - Open Event Viewer and select Windows Logs / System log and filter on disc related events

Best to run the disc manufacturer test tools to see how extensive the issue with the drive is

I would recommend first thing before running any other diagnostics is to do a complete backup to recover everything that is still usable. Any further testing or usage will degrade the disk further and will eventually lead to complete disk failure. (not trying to scare you but these types of errors cannot be fixed and progressively get worse)

got it, thank you. I did have to do a repair on the drive recently and Plex hasn’t worked since I did that. This is a pretty old laptop, at least 10 years old. Everything else on the computer seems to be working ok though since I did that. I will backup and run the disc cleanup and whatever else and see what happens.

If you want to continue using the laptop for less than $100 you can replace the hard drive. I use a program called Veeam https://www.veeam.com which is a free program to run complete system backups. Run a backup, swap hard drives, and use the bare metal recovery process. Should take a couple hours at most.

I said earlier that I am not the most tech savvy, so I’m open to opinions here. Do you think it’s even worth throwing money at this old laptop? It’s a lenovo t440 think pad that has to be 10+ years old and it has not worked well in 5 years.

Well that depends.
Is your tolerance for aggravation higher or lower than your budget?

You can get a reasonably priced laptop with decent enough specs these days.

Personally I would check the specs of what you have and then look around to see what’s comparable for the price of a new one
