Plex can't find server in Mint Linux

I just installed Plex on my Linux Mint computer. I can sign in and open Plex but it can not find the server. What can I do so that it can find the server?

Jeff

What do you mean you cannot find the server, please explain.
Do you mean you cannot find the server within your network?
Or do you mean that you cannot find the app itself.

When I open Plex, it immediately is looking for a server. It says it can’t find a server. I use Plex on a Windows machine and I have no problem.

Info is needed.

Is PMS installed on the computer you’re attempting to access it from or is it elsewhere? If elsewhere, where ?

Is the media server you are trying to find on your network?
Is it attached to the same account you use on your Windows machine?

I’m not sure where it is. I assume the media server was installed when I installed the Plex program. It is the same accout as I use on the Windows machine.

Did you install the media server correctly?
I am not really understanding what you are trying to say here.
You cannot find the media server if the server itself is not running.

How do I start it? Wouldn’t it automatically start when I open Plex?

This isn’t Windows. Linux is entirely different.

Please allow me to ask, How familiar are you with Linux and why did you install Linux ?

Somewhat familiar with Linux. I installed it because it is so much faster than windows.

Did you get a chance to give a quick glance over

Yes, I did.

Are you at all familiar with starting and stopping system services?

In the referenced page, it shows you how to access it.

I am not trying to be harsh but basic linux familiarity is required.
We can help with PMS on Linux but are unfortunately not equipped to teach Linux.
I am only trying to determine your level of Linux mastery.

I am new to Linux. I love it as it is so much faster than Windows.

When I start Plex in my browser, it says that it is looking for servers but doesn’t find any. I am just trying to get it to discover the server. I assume that the server installed when I installed Plex???

Jeff

  1. Sign your browser out of Plex/web (the web app)
  2. Now, because it’s installed on the same computer you’re going to access it from, you use http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

I tried that but it just says “a server can not be found”.

hello

the plex client, or plex web (through web browser) is completely different from the plex server.

on linux, you must install the plex server independently.

I do not know if plex server is available in the mint app store/repository, but you should be able to install the .deb file for generic linux ubuntu/debian x64 @ https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ > server > linux > click the distribution link to choose the distro

I will again ask and emphasize the importance of

Kindly show us (copy paste of console / focused screenshot of terminal window) please

Yes, I have installed it but it can’t find it.

Jeff

is it running?
