This isn’t a big deal as it can be fixed with the “Split Apart” and “Fix Match…” options, but it’s still aggravating none-the-less.
When Plex first sees Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2, no matter how I have them named in the folders and files, it always thinks they’re both part 1, and I have to split them and fix the match.
For the record, I’ve tried it both with and without the dash before the “Part” part.
Now the Twilight Breaking Dawn movies are named exactly the same way, and Plex identifies them both correctly as two different movies.
With both movie sets, I can do the Plex dance, and Deathly Hallows always shows back up as one movie and Breaking Dawn always shows back up correctly as two movies.
This happened a while back with Deathly Hallows and I didn’t think too much of it really, but I had to delete them for space and only just put them back, and lo and behold, the same issue as before.
Again, this isn’t any kind of big, server breaking issue, just an annoyance I’m hoping someone can explain to me for educational purposes, or maybe there’s a bug that needs fixing.
Your file names appear to be ok.
If you don’t want to manually split them you can now include the IMDb or TMDb ids of each movie in the file or folder name. This requires the use of the new Plex Movie agent.
e.g. naming the files as
Movies
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010) {imdb-tt0926084}
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010).mkv
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010).srt
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2010) {tmdb-12445}.mkv
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2010) {tmdb-12445}.srt
For what it’s worth plex knows the difference of my HP-movies, which is a bit strange since they are named:
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Pt I
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Pt II
One would think that you naming should make the movies easier for plex to match compared to my naming.
You’re using roman numerals (I, II, III, IV) while I’m using Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4). I’ll experiment later with swapping between the number type on both HP and Twilight and see what happens. Be interesting to see if HP only identifies correctly using roman numerals while Twilight works fine with Arabic and Roman. Can you think of any other movie pairs like that I could test as well.
I’m about to eat dinner, so I’ll test it later tonight and post my results.
