Plex Certificate "404" -- Unable to obtain Certificate from cloud

@maxxhunter – Which server please? Can you help clear some of the dead ones?

@Kristophen.Greene - Certificate reset - You may restart the server

@jimlattanzi - Certificate reset - You may restart the server

@TotallyJuvenile

I reset yours and so posted.
Perhaps you didn’t get the notification yet?

It’s ok to restart

Thank you @ChuckPa

Thank you, This however didn’t fix my problem. After I restarted the windows server running plex, I can still hit everything just fine locally (127.0.0.1), but when I load it through app.plex.tv, I still have the big yellow Exclamation on each library saying it cannot connect securely. What should I try next?

That sounds like remote access is down. (Settings - Server - Remote Access - Show Advanced).

It’s somewhat normal for Remote Access to need some time to right itself after this hard reset of the world (as far as it knows)

GIve it an hour, enabled just as it was, and then check.

Will do. I am leaving the server running and remote access is currently enabled. Check back in an hour.

Thanks

@TotallyJuvenile

Deleting your posts is not helpful to engineering.

REQUEST:

To all to have examined their log files and know of the “404” error code while “attempting to fetch” the certificate,

Please give me the name of the server to restart
Also, at that time, please stop the server if not already shutdown.

If there are multiple servers on your account, please help me by cleaning up if you can, and telling me which to reset. If you can’t, please also notify me.

I’m hoping to be more efficient at this while Engineering works through it.

server named MovieServer, How do I removed dead servers?

@MaxxHunter

Settings - Authorized Devices (left upper corner of Plex/web) -> Server (dropdown)

Cick the “X” and 'REMOVE"

Certificate for MovieServer reset.
You may now restart it.

I am very sorry, I realized I was putting them in the wrong spots or forgetting to reply correctly… I will leave well enough alone. It looks like this issue still persists. I did not have my server shut down at the time you cleaned up the certificate. Should we try again?

shut it down now

It is shut down now

Start it. :slight_smile:

( I had my finger “ON THE BUTTON:bomb: :rofl: )

I turned the server back on and now plex wont even launch. The icon never appears in the sys tray, though the application says it is running in task manager. Looks like my secondary drive where my database is didn’t come back. Can’t seem to get it to show up. Looks like i have a different hill to climb today. Thanks for your help, I will reach out if I have problems after restoring (or re creating) my plex database.

Hi - I have the 404 error - please could you reset my cert? Server “Data”. Log:

Oct 08, 2020 17:57:14.023 [15100] ERROR - CERT: Could not fetch certificate from the cloud: 404

Cheers :slight_smile:

@nicopolous

Certificate reset

You may restart the server

Thank you very much. Unfortunately it didn’t work, but I think it might have been because the server was running (sorry, scheduled job started it). Does it need resetting again?

Server offline.

Thanks!

There is no certificate assigned.
It’s throttled ( if a 429 error exists in the logs ) meaning Plex.tv is making it cool down from making too many bad requests.

GIve it 12 hours to calm again then restart
If not immediate back, give it another 6

Thank you :slight_smile:
