Plex channels, web shows, anything live not working

Server Version#:1.15.3.876
Player Version#:3.94.1

Plex for lg. After last server update, web shows and some channels are no longer working. The video stream just spins and sometimes the LG player crashes and restarts. This is just for online content. Local works fine. Anyone else having this problem?

Plex for WebOS is VERY buggy and unstable for me. I recectly got a 2018 C8 OLED and was hoping to use plex on it but have stopped doing so due to so many problems with basic functionality.

Really? It worked flawlessly on 2 oled B6 until I updated the pms and went to webtools 3.0. other clients are fine, Android, Xbox, Firefox. It’s just the LG 3.94.1 on both TV’s that stopped playing nice

Well, that makes sense. The TV is new for me so I’ve only used 3.94.1.

On a side note…a huge design flaw in most of the OS with an app store model is that the user can’t pick a version of an app to use. If a developer releases an app with regressions or bugs, the user is out of luck until an update is published. This model assumes app updates are always better than previous verions which isn’t true way to often.

I’m fine with them releasing an unpolished version with new features, but if basic functionality gets lost, at least give the user the option to rollback to a working version. I’m tired of spending more time setting up technology than using it.
Hoping the LG app doesn’t get pushed to the back of the line.

The app will be going UNO eventually, lets hope your issues are resolved. If you have not tried the following, it is recommended.

  1. un install app
  2. Power down the tv from the wall ( 2 minutes Min)
  3. Remove app From authorised devices PMS
  4. Restart PMS
  5. Start Tv and Install the app again
  6. Apply PIN
  7. Check your app settings. Can try Dim instead Blur for backgound. It has been reported a speed improvement in some LG TV’s

I use my LG Plex app with a OLED65B8 with no issue except for it’s odd UI, will now come to accept and await UNO. The same as Roku new UI.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the above steps, still Plex 3.94.1 for lg will not play anything over the internet. It streams from local server just fine however. The app just resets. Also, dashboard on pms shows nothing playing while the app is trying to stream. Looking forward to a future update that might have a fix

Ok, try changing the TV DNS, 8.8.8.8

Good idea but still the same. App hangs or crashes. Its Ethernet connected. TV is connected to internet. And I tried wireless to no avail. I’m starting to think my expensive oled has an underpowered processor. The icons for channels are even slow to load while my other device apps show up right away. However this only started after I updated pms to latest version

New find…if I disable direct play the live content will play. They do start slower than other clients though. Enable direct play…stream fails and app crashes

Direct play isn’t working for me either (on many files) on my LG TV. If disable direct stream, everything seems to work well on the LG TV side.

That said, I have HW transcoding disabled on my shield server since hw transcoding seems to have significant issues on the shield as well…which makes the whole setup for me completely unusable…although it seems quite stable.

Hoping for some fixes soon.

I also lost ALL online content on my LG TV running WebOS. It’s still in the web interface and the Xbox1X client, so it’s specific to the WebOS client.

This never-ending whack-a-mole experience with plex functionality is a trip - a bad trip. I’m starting to spend more time fighting bugs and issues than actually enjoying streaming entertainment…

TV software updated yesterday. Still problems with Plex. On a side note I still can’t get Hulu live on my 2016 LG. Last LG anything I buy.

I was able to get almost all of the online sources to come back by logging out, deleting the app and then reinstalling and logging back in. So it’s not fixed, but I guess it’s the best I can expect since it works in my other clients.

The News feature did not come back, but all of the other sources reappeared. Until next time…
