Does the shield have logs?? Let me look into that. Didn’t know that was an option.
Ok - Sorry, I am a bit new at this. I did a little searching. Didn’t realize there were logs on the plex app different from the plex server logs. I enabled network logging but it only went back a few hours. I will run another test in the morning and get you both fresh sets of logs.
Thanks!
See attached. Let me know. thanks!

Thanks for the logs. I found that the app has a 10 minute timeout for live tv streams. I did not know this was a thing. It’s set so that the app does not end up taking all available resources since the app could be left in this paused state for days. I’ll ask why it was set to 10 minutes, but at least this explains what’s going on.
Ok thanks! Sounds like we are getting somewhere. Most DVRs have a user setting for pause/buffer length for live TV. Would that be a difficult setting to add? I usually prefer 2-3 hours.
Hi - Did you get any answer or updates on this? Anything else you need from me? Thanks.
I have confirmed with a dev that there is timeout set for 10 minutes. I do not have any info on this will change or if it can be user settable. I would suggest making a feature request so we can guage how many people would be interested in this.
If I understand correctly, what you are saying is : “We will leave this bugged and won’t fix it”.
This does not sound like the best way to handle a bug. If the 10 minutes delay is passed, the application should just show a message saying it and then playback should go back to Live (at least). Playback should not crash without notice ! This is basic UX !
Please make an effort… Plex way of treating bugs is terrible right now…
No offense to you personnally though. I am just passing a message.
I agree that the error should be better and I can work on that. However, stopping after 10 minutes is not a bug, it’s intentional. You may not agree that there should be a limit but the app is working as expected so it’s not a bug. The best way to get something changed that is working as expected is with a feature request.
I appreciate the info. I also understand it is not a bug. It is however something that would greatly improve usability.
I have created a feature request as you recommended. If everyone could please vote for it perhaps we can get it moved up and changed quickly.
Thanks!
If playback crashes, then it IS a bug. Because the error is not being handled.
I am sorry, but you cannot argue on this. And I work in IT as well.
Still, I understand the way to go for it to change. I just cannot agree with the process.
Has anyone tried the beta? Crashing after a long pause was fixed for me as of 8.15.0.23515 on FireOS.
I just tried again with 8.15.23855 installed. Still the same issue. Pause for 20-30 min and the live feed was killed when I got back.
If anyone anyone else would like to see this fixed, please vote for the feature suggestion linked above. It will likely need a few dozen votes to gain any traction.
As mentioned above, the Android app currently has a 10 minute limit on how long Live TV can be paused.
You sure about that 10 minute limit? If that’s true, then how is it that I was just able to resume live tv on my Shield after it had been paused for nearly half an hour?
edit
Guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Plex devs don’t even seem to know how their own system works.
I confirmed with a dev that there is a limit. Not sure how you were able to continue.
I added my vote - 10 mins is way too short
Bump - asking for more votes. Surely there are more DVR users who would like to pause for more than 10 min…
My vote has been added. I agree that 10 minutes is completely inadequate and I have been using Channels DVR for TV and would like to use Plex for all my media functions. I hope enough people respond for Plex to make this enhancement.
Plex Client on Nvidia Shield Pro
Plex Server on QNAP NAS
HDHomerun as tuner
Asking for more votes again - please consider voting for this feature suggestion at the link above. thanks!
