Thanks.
I tested it last night and had paused live TV for 3 hours and it worked (SSD is 500GB and is only used as an OS and Plex DB/TMP drive so there’s a plenty of space)
Windows 10 Server
nVidia Shield Pro client → This is the only “Android” device in our house and i must say its amazing (if only android tablets/phones were anything like this )
Another fantastic long term bug that never seems to be fixed.
I find there’s an issue when pausing a recording in progress (i.e. time shifting) especially when nearing the end of the show, or if it has finished completely. Plex does not like this and will randomly crash back to the beginning of the episode - or to the beginning of the PREVIOUS programme if you have recorded back to back on the same channel!
Another class act is fast forwarding through the ads a bit too quickly for Plex to handle when time shifting - can result in skipping straight to live and, oh dear, spoiler alert!
Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 if it matters to anyone, client only, server on Synology DS1019+.
Hey guys - I have been playing with my system to see if the issue was on my end, but I cannot resolve it. If i pause for as little as 30 min, and come back, it fails. Need to close the app and reopen to get live TV working again. Pausing works ok if its only a few minutes, but any longer seems to break it.
Is this just a long term bug still being worked on, or is there something else I can do?
I have plex server running on nvidia shield. Latest version. Storage was a 6tb NAS, but I recently changed to a USB 750gb hard drive connected to the shield. I thought maybe the NAS was causing the issue, but it still happens everytime.
Any help would be appreciated. This seems like a pretty basic DVR feature and its driving me nuts.
Ug. When I time-shift a live show by 30 min, why does it not let me finish the show? Why does it jump to the live feed as soon as the scheduled show ends, even if I’m still watching and have 10, 15 or 30 min left to watch the time shift.
This is unfortunately a long standing issue with direct-play live TV. If, however, you transcode it, you can pause for as long as you have space to store it.
I’ve sat and watched the files get cleaned out of my Plex temp directory. I believe the limit is 3 minutes.
You cannot “elevate” the issue unfortunately…
Plex support team does not acknowledge bugs, do not give any feedback, and I’m many cases do not even try to fix bugs.
Live TV (and many more features) has been bugged and unusable for more than a year now. And every update breaks it more and more.
I personally gave up on them and am switching to Emby as soon as my subscription ends in July. I also heard Channels is a very good alternative for live TV. Haven’t tried it though.
When enough people have left Plex, maybe then will they begin to fix things up and stop working on useless features nobody asked for like “retro gaming”.
How can I elevate the issue? Pausing live TV is a core function of a DVR system.
You can’t since Plex refuses to support their product. Showstopping bugs have plagued their live TV service for years, but Plex employees have made it abundantly clear that they couldn’t care less. If you’re interested in live TV then you should look into software companies that actually care about their product like Channels DVR or Emby. If it’s been less than 6 months since you purchased a Plex pass then I would call the credit card company you paid with and file a chargeback since the software doesn’t work as advertised.
This issue is as described in the title - if I am watching live TV and pause it, take the dog on a walk, and come back to press play, it gives an error and ends the session.
Specifically this was watching on the Nvidia Shield. Server is also on the shield.
TV show library is currently on a 6tb NAS. I have a 750 gb usb hard drive plugged into the shield and have the the transcoder temporary directory pathed to that 750gb hard drive. I did that to test and see if the NAS as a possible issue. It did not solve the problem
Let me know what other info I can provide to help. Thanks.
Related - I am also having trouble with this issue. Maybe the logs can help with both.
I recently found that moving the transcoder folder does not move every folder PMS may use. It’s possible it’s still using the internal memory and running out of space.
Edit - When was the last time this happened? I don’t see anything neat the end of your logs.
Your logs show something changed the playback status from paused to stopped. Can you grab the logs from the Android app? Hopefully it still has the info for the same time period when the playback stopped,
