Plex cloud

Hi,
I wuold like to know when plex cloud will be released? i already submitted the request to be beta tester. my compliment, Plex is an amazing platform.
regards

There is no way of knowing at this point unfortunately. All anyone can do is wait, cross their fingers, and hope to be included.

fwiw: I can’t use it yet due to some technical / logistic issues (some of my own making) while others are having success. It’s still hit-or-miss.

Plex doesn’t discuss release plans or schedules.

First rule of Plex… we don’t talk about Plex schedules

haha sorry couldn’t resist made me think of Fight Club!

LOL @ Fight Club Rules!

Really looking forward to this feature. I’m ready to upload my data to amazon drive. It would be very useful for me - even though I mainly use plex at home at the moment, my usage will change slightly too.

Still hoping for an invite at some point

What are you waiting for? Go ahead and upload your media to ACD. You’ll be able to use it in your future Plex Cloud instance. You might want to preserve your existing folder structure in the cloud, though, so the use of advanced tools like rclone is recommended (it’s way faster and more reliable than official Amazon Drive app anyway).

Is this for sure? I have an app which syncs all the data on my NAS to Amazon Cloud Drive and it took months to upload the many terabytes of media. It sure would be great not to have to do it all over again for Plex Cloud.

Yes, for sure. Upload your current structure, unencrypted and it will work with Plex Cloud eventually.

Is there a way to change the answer to my beta survey? I said no I didn’t have cloud but would get it if selected for the beta. I didn’t realize there was a trial so I got that and was able to push up 1.3TB in the last 24 hours. 8-|

I have no idea how it’s supposed to be laid out so if anyone has any tips before I get too far that would be helpful

So far, there seems to be no need. There hasn’t been any word about the selection criteria. Some people who already have Amazon Cloud Drive, got in to the beta, some who didn’t have Amazon Cloud Drive also got in.

It seems the selection is either random, or first come first served. No word on specifics.

Awesome, good to know. I will keep uploading, may be able to get everything up.

All good. I didn’t get in, and even I’m uploading. I have a tiny connection compared to most of the others on here, so I’m going to be old and gray by the time my library is uploaded.

That said, it’s freeing up space on my NAS in the mean time, so it’s not all bad

Is the library that’s on Amazon able to be shared with friends like local libraries?

I work in a library and we typically have to buy things from vendors that allow us to share our content. For digital there are only a couple fully legal options we can look at.

When you say library on Amazon, I presume you mean within Plex. My understanding is that the Amazon Cloud server will show up in your list of servers just as if you stood up an additional home server. From there, you can do the same sharing that you would with any other home server.

This shouldn’t be confused with sharing direct access to your cloud drive independently of Plex, which is a separate issue.

If you put a request in how long does it take to get put on the plex cloud? Did my request close to the day it came out but haven’t got one yet…

Plex invited a small number of folks that applied into the beta and they have not, as far as I know, added to that. There are numerous problems and many features that most people expect are not available yet.

Plex has hinted that maybe there will be some additions to the beta pool but they have said nothing for sure.

From my experience Plex Cloud’s beta is not ready for its pool to expand much but you never know.

One thing holding it up is that there are rate limiting issues with Amazon and, I think, that is ongoing and it is up to Amazon to fix it.

Edit: I also remember something about Plex wanting to limit the beta to just a few geographic areas because of server location.

I too would love to get into this and am crossing my fingers for an invite.

I’ve had 10 TB of data in Amazon Cloud Drive now for a year and would love to give this a try. Put in my request on the day it came out. Help me out Plex!
