PLEX combines a two part movie without a way to play either file

There are two movie files on disk in one folder named “1900 (1976)”.

  1. Novecento.1976.Act.One.720p.BluRay.AAC2.0.x264.mkv
  2. Novecento.1976.Act.Two.720p.BluRay.AAC2.0.x264.mkv

FLEX combined these two files into one Movie on it’s interface, which is nice however there is no means to access or understand which file it’s playing through it’s interface.

When one starts to play the movie it plays Act Two first for a few seconds then stops and starts to play Act One.

How does one control the payback?

See Naming and organizing your Movie files. Specifically, the Movies Split Across Multiple Files section. Note the naming requirements (you’ll need to rename the files).

Also note the many caveats listed, especially that not all Plex clients support multi-part movies.

You would probably be better off combining the two parts into one file, as it would avoid the issues with multi-part movies.

See [HowTo]: joining multi-part movies files with MKVtoolnix GUI

Thank you, I understand PLEX’s file naming requirements. I guess what PLEX doesn’t understand is that when I ask that they be SPLIT to lock some split field yet allow someone to update the METADATA and don’t combine them again.

It’s sort of half-way thought out from the user interface perspective.
