Plex confusing two shows as same show

I have two shows that are very close in name. Mountain Men and Mountain Men: Alaska. Mountain Men was the first show then there was a spinoff to Mountain Men : Alaska. I have a separate folder structure for the Alaska spinoff, but Plex thinks the shows are the same and is putting the episodes in the Mountain Men episode list instead of creating a new Mountain Men: Alaska. How do i fix this to get both shows to separately show up in Plex?

Use the examples in https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/ . Add the date into the folder and file names as shown. Do the plex dance to correct the meta data (although a simple rescan of the library might work.

What grhiner said. I’d like to stress that adding the year a show came out originally (see TVDB/TMDB for the year) will almost always fix any issue with similar-looking names.

I suspect Plex uses the year to narrow down searching for a show. I once had the wrong decade for one show (Police Academy: The Animated Series (1988)), I had wrongly entered 1998), and despite the name being pretty much exact, Plex matched it against a DIFFERENTLY named show closer to the date (Police Academy: The Series (1997)).

Since Mountain Men (2012) and Mountain Men Alaska (2023) are far enough apart date-wise, you won’t need to mess around with adding the show’s id in the title or doing a manual match. Simply adding the year should work.
