Plex Connect for shared library only (Setup)

My parents have an AT3 and I wish to share my plex library with them. Will I still need to have PMS set up on my Dad’s MacBook each time he uses plex.

Or will it only be needed for setup?

You need to have PlexConnect installed at you Dad’s home, no need for a separate PMS installation.

Thanks, so just to confirm.

  1. Install PlexConnect on my Dad’s MacBook.
  2. Ensure the ATV is configured
  3. Sign in his plex account in Plex on ATV
  4. Choose my Server.
  5. Watch the awful home videos of me as a kid.

Yes, but you may have to test several bitrate combinations (PlexConnect remote transcoding settings in the ATV) until you are satisfied with the result. High bitrates with slow communication speed is not advisable, so downsampling may be needed for some films.
