Plex deleting metadata from turned off devices while scanning (1.41.3.92.32)

Server Version#:1.41.3.92.32
Player Version#:1.105.1.257

I had a big problem with this update. I have several external drives with lots of series and movies. I only turn on the drives that i need. When i perform ‘update libraries’ plex normally ignores those turned off drives and only updates the working devices. But with plex media server update 1.41.3.9232 it removes the metadate from the turned off devices and shows red trash cans on the posters. Never happened before. Every time i turned them back on, plex had to renew those data. I have lots of manual entry data so i had to bring back everything with a backup database to fix it. When i downgraded plex media server to 1.41.2.9200 this problem did not occur. Does anyone had also this problem? I just want to be sure that it’s not a malfunction in my plex.

If you still see posters, then the metadata are still there. All you should need to do is to power on the drives and start a library scan.

If you’re routinely switching off media storage, you better ensure that the server preference “Empty trash automatically after every scan” is OFF and stays that way.

This is a server side regression. See PM-1739 in 1.41.3.9232 introduces what I hope is a regression - #6 by dokuro for details.

For now make sure to disable Scan my library periodically and DO NOT SCAN your libraries unless they are mounted and active.

Thanks for your answer.
“Empty trash automatically after every scan” is always disabled.
But when you say that the metadata is still there, i am not so sure about that.
Before this beta update, while scanning, Plex ignored those drives that were disabled. It only mentioned ‘not available’. It never put a red trash cans on my posters.
And when i turned the devices on, it just made them back available in just a couple of seconds. But now, when i turn on my device(s) it scans everything and it takes quite a while before my library is ready again.

Thanks dokuro. To be honest, I’m a little relieved that i am not the only one with this problem. I did downgrade Plex media server to solve this problem. And i hope that with the next update it won’t come back.

Just checked Version 1.41.3.9276 which was released today and the problem still exists. We will need to keep an eye on the release notes for when a fix actually comes.

Thanks dokuro. I will surely do that. Hope this will be fixed really soon.
