Plex desktop app for windows un authenticated local server

What am I doing wrong? Am I expecting something that is NOT there?

  • Plex server is on a PC on the local network.

  • Server is set to NOT require authentication

  • my server, PC’s and TV are all on teh same local network.

  • I can ping each other with no errors.

  • I can open plex web interface from other devices no errors

  • when I open the browser
    “https://10.0.10.40:32400/web/index.html#”
    I can access all the content without any authentication and loging in. This is my DESIRED operation it is OK.

  • My Mi 4 running google TV is working fine without any user login.

all above is good.

I install plex for windows
open plex for windows I dont log in, IT DOES NOT discover my server!
I log in to the plex for windows with a user name (NOT the same user as the plex server) plex for windows Does NOT detect my local server.

ONLY and ONLY if i use the same user on the plex for windows and plex server then plex for windows detect my local server. (this is NOT desired as I dont need everyone to log in with my user name)

what am I missing?
