Plex Desktop for Mac performance issue

Server Version#: 1.22.2.4282
Player Version#: 1.30.1.2115-81e1fc3f

Playback of files within the Plex desktop client for Mac is completely useless. Playback of all files attempted works for perhaps 0.5 sec, then pauses for 4-5 seconds, then plays for 0.5 sec, then pauses … ad nauseum.

I’ve confirmed the media file appears to be in good shape, and works as needed via ALL other playback methods - e.g. the iOS Plex app, Plex web browser client, Apple TV Plex app, Roku Plex app, etc. It is only within the Plex desktop app that playback suffers these significant issues.

See screen recording linked below for more details. Note that in the recording, I’m switching between the web client (works perfectly) and the Plex desktop client (doesn’t work at all), all on the same machine (a Mac Pro 6-core Xeon @ 3.5GHz), with the same network connection to my local server (a ~1 Gbps ethernet connection).

How can I best provide applicable logs (which ones would these be?), to help diagnose and resolve? Are others seeing the same abysmal performance issues with Plex for Mac?

Downloaded files work fine for me, for the rest I resort back to the web player…
Am using an M1 Mac mini and M1 MacBook Pro, the “older” Intel variants never had that problem for me.

Would you say that it’s … unTENETable?

During Playback, what does the Server Status/Dashboard say? In particularly is it Direct Play, Stream, or Transcoded?

Does the behavior change if you disable subtitles?
