Plex disconnects PC connection to the web when established

Server Version#: 1.18.6.2368-97add474d

I updated the Plex Server on my Windows machine on 2/11/20 (remote update) and since then, when Plex tries to connect, it would disconnect the connection on my PC. While running a ping test to any website, it would have a “Request Timed Out” message for 5 minutes then resume passing results to websites.

The only way Plex would connect, is if I turn on my VPN. This will allow all users remotely to connect to the library, however only using an indirect connection via the VPN.

I’ve seen similar post on this issue but no general fix. Please help!

Server Machine:

  • Win10 Pro
  • Intel Core i7 3930K @ 3.2GHz Socket 2011LGA Sandy Bridge-E CPU
  • ASUS P9X79 WS LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 SSI CEB
  • ADATA Premier SP550 480GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Solid State Drive (ASP550SS3-480GM-C)
  • 24GB RAM DDR3
  • Seagate Barracuda 8TB

Please let me know if you have any questions.

If you happen to be on Verizon Fios, I and others were having the same issue and the solution is in this thread.

Holy smokes. I do have Verizon Fios! I will check my router settings later and provide an update. How do I turn off (or modify) this to allow PMS to work?

You have to do it within the MyFios app on your smart device.

UPDATE:

Turning off Parental Network Settings (McAfee) definitely did the job! Although, it is concerning since nothing was disabled in terms of the listed items.
