Not really man.
@Ridley I noticed that you were engaged on this topic previously but had not been able to confirm this would be addressed in a forthcoming release. Do you have any other info that you would be able to share today?
Yeah sorry.
I re-read the whole gist of the thread.
The issue is users with BOTH DV and Non DV capable TV’s?
In my defence and not realising that, I was trying to say that there is ALWAYS an HDR alternative.
On the plus side the latest Boba Fett episodes have been released by at least one group as Hybrids that can play as DV or fallback to HDR as appropriate.
Re-Read it again
The issue is that the Plex client on iOS/tvOS, and apparently macOS, can’t display profile 5 correctly on DV capable Displays. While infuse, on the same HW, can.
It’s not just Apple devices. I’ve confirmed the same situation with my Nvidia shield pro as well as my Windows PC viewing through the Chrome browser
yep and the LG WebOS app. Infuse is the only way I can watch DV reliably, I’d be embarrassed of this if I were on the plex team. a few weeks or months would be somewhat understandable, but this has been dragging on for YEARS now.
We need to start hammering them for attention on this via other channels. Twitter, emails, bug reports, etc. I’ve already reached out to Plex this morning, I encourage you all to do the same.
If we make enough noise they’ll have to at least acknowledge in some way.
I actually prefer the UI in Infuse now that I have used it as a daily driver for a while. You can hide spoilers, merge movie and TV libraries or separate them which is very helpful if you have kids.
I wouldn’t dream of using any other plex player at this point. Playback is better than every other Plex app I’ve tried even the Nvidia Shield and HTPC clients. And when using AirPods Pro/MAX the cinematic experience is insane! Spatial audio works with AirPods Pro/Max, and playback is just so phenomenal I couldn’t dream of going back to the native app.
If you are using Plex on an apple device, and don’t have Infuse yet, you are doing a great disservice to yourself! Screw the native Plex app, delete it and use Infuse and all your problems will drift away lol
For me there are at least two dealbreakers for Infuse as a daily driver. There may be more but these have stopped me from delving any deeper.
-
No home user support
-
no poster view in library navigation
And then everything else is just good enough to be tolerable, overall a major downgrade to the Plex client.
I’ve not used InFuse previously but since we are all Plex users here it would stand to reason that the library we have being curated by Plex would be a big barrier to entry to switching to Infuse just on Apple clients, no?
Until it gets to the most important part.
Playback that works. From hitting play it’s a major upgrade.
No, you can sign into your plex server, it’s just a different client. It’s not nearly on feature parity with the plex client, it just happens to play media a lot better.
yes obviously I meant aside from that. that’s why Plex is still my daily driver and I just switch to infuse when I run into playback issues.
Very strange.
I hardly ever watch via Plex on my IPhone 12.
I see the exact same pink and greens when I just tried. On my Apple TV 4K the colour is fine for the same files.
Are we all running TestFlight builds?
I have a deep respect for the people working here and what they do.
But if you think all this forum discussion is a request, you think wrong.
This is a problem and it’s a problem on a software you are selling.
So , 2 things can happen here. And I know you know them both.
Just fix the damn problem, it’s not even so hard to fix
Thanks !
I go the opposite way.
I decide what I want to watch via Plex superior UI/UX then watch it in Infuse. ![]()
Understood, thank you.
For a few months, I was using Infuse only when I had issues with Plex on ATV. After a while, though I found that I was having issues more and more often so set about making Infuse work better for me - understanding the delay on start and letting my Infuse’s sync up properly.
Now Infuse is my daily driver (and my gf’s) and I dread having to use Plex Player. I also noticed that the picture is not only quicker and snappier, it’s actually a better picture when decoded by the Infuse player - fewer artifacts, better color, etc.
Add this to the fact that it also has an add to playlist feature (that Plex on ATV still does not have), I am actually warming to Infuse UI now.
Items we both miss are the Movie Trailers and the search speed.
Other than that, Infuse is a nicer play experience and a slightly less good UI experience. But, when we are watching media we get great colors, never a single codec issue, snappy subtitles, and spatial audio and DoVi compatibility.
Whilst it’s not a huge issue to me, the clear indifference to the issue by the Plex dev team vs the good engagement from the Infuse dev team does lead me to believe that there is an underlying lack of interest in the ATV/High end DoV niche user by the Plex leadership/management. This is a shame as Plex is a great product.

Yeah two other key things for me are.
On the fly VP thumbs. (not having to hammer the server generating them)
Lately, Spatial Audio that works with all codecs, for times I have no be noise friendly
And yeah, support and engagement between Infuse and Plex doesn’t even compare.
Not to mention I really like the way Infuse are open about what changes and feature requests are upcoming.
Back to the topic at hand. How shall we connect with the Plex staff to get some answers on this? I am new to the Forum and don’t know who to @
