Plex displays wrong colours with Dolby Vision on AppleTV 4k

All this technical stuff goes right over my head!

If we could just get feature parity with the way Infuse handles Dolby Vision on the ATV4K, then I’d be happy!

Great to see some movement here but where does that leave us with the profile 5 bug we are experiencing?

Yes, this right here. I’m sure I’m missing some technical things but all I know is that Infuse works for my Dolby Vision videos and Plex does not on the Apple TV 4K. Can we PLEASE bring Plex up to par?? I hate paying for a pass and then using a competing application to get the job done.

“It’s possible Profile 8.4 is or will be supported on the ATV4K at some point with a software update” [nekno]

Apparently, ATV4K is supporting Profile 8.4.

Makes sense, that’s what iPhones record when DV is enabled.

If the Plex staff wants to reach out to these guys to see how they sorted it out with Infuse that might get the ball rolling…

It’s not even the fact that it takes half a year+ to fix a bug, it’s the inability of the company to communicate that frustrates me most.

@Ridley do you think we can get a true update and get this escalated?

This is being worked on internally.

As it’s been for years now Plex will work great 90-95% of the time but when it fails your only solution is to fall back to Infuse. Infuse people are so aware of this they added support for Plex years ago.
When something doesn’t play right in Plex I gave up on any troubleshooting efforts and just play it in Infuse.

not being purposely obtuse…, but does “worked on internally” acknowledge that this item is a flaw/problem with the software and a fix is being worked toward? or are we still researching if this is truly a problem?

there were several earlier responses indicating that folks were reporting the wrong issue, etc. i’m just curious if we’re past that phase at this point, and have formally admitted that plex isn’t working correctly and a remedy is being researched.

Yeah, why is it so hard to get an official response from the appropriate team in Plex about this??

Telling us it’s being worked on internally provides nothing of value here since it’s the same line we’ve been hearing for months now.

Yeahhh… If you could go ahead and fix it, that would be great…

just add me to the list. I have bene using plex forEVER and am currently looking for alternatives because of this. Incredible it’s not been fixed yet.

We use ROKU, Shield and new apple tv. Need consistent best playback possible. Crazy crazy this still happens

Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down…!

Not that it matters, but just to light the fire under Plex a little more, Infuse also announced additional mkv Dolby Vision support for their latest ATV release.

That’s pretty huge, DVp5 through MKV pretty much makes compatibility a non-issue.

Yes it is, yes it is…

Just ran into this issue as well, altho it happens on desktop Plex for Windows, and Web (Chrome) and Plex-Mpv-Shim.

I just tried a series which is HDR10+. On Plex, it triggers my Dolby Vision logo but doesn’t play back properly. It stutters. In Infuse, it does not trigger Dolby Vision logo, and plays back fine.

Is there another issue relating to DV?
