This is very strange and only happens with just one file. I update the libraries and the movie is not recognized so it is not shown in the list. I don’t mean the cover, no, I mean the movie itself, it’s like if there was no movie in the folder and it’s not listed.
Why is this happening this with this particular file?
It’s a mkv file, but I have a lot of mkv files and all them are recognized, but not this one.
Why?
When you view by folders, does the folder show up and if so is there anything in it?
If the movie is the only thing in that folder, does it have the same name as the folder? If not it might have tried to call the movie by the folder name.
Are there any duplicate movies in the library? If so, see what films PLEX has confused and matches the same. This may be one of them.
The file in conflict is in a folder called \movies2
In that folder, using the Windows file explorer, you can see that file and also 1381 files (movies - I love cinema) and 382 folders (also with movies)
The movie is not the only thing in that folder and it does not have the same name as the folder.
The name of the file is Burden.mkv
After performing a search in the folder \movies2 with the word “Burden” in only see 1 result in the list “Burden.mkv”, which is the movie that is not shown.
I have changed the file name to this djfkhfkjf.mkv in order to avoid duplicities. I updated the libraries in the PLEX server and nothing, the movie is not listed.
Is this a metatags problem?
There are no duplicate movies in the folder with the name “Burden”
Any idea about what is happening?
Well for one thing you named it wrong. You have to name a movie with the date. There are over a dozen movies named Burden and without a date, PLEX has NO idea which one it is. Burden (2018)? Burden (2016)? See what I mean?
I removed it and crated a new folder, called \movies3
I copied this movie Burden(2018).mkv to \movies3
I added the \movies3 folder to the libraries in PLEX
I did a scan again, nothing, this movie never is listed.
This is very strange.
when you view by folders, what do you see in there? I made a copy of a film and renamed it Burden (2018) and PLEX matched it perfectly. I even took the space out of the name and named it incorrectly as Burden(2018) and it still nailed it. Beats me. Create a new library and aim it at the folder with that movie in it and see what it does.
Still the same, I have created a new library a new folder and this particular file is not detected. It is a MKV ( matroska file). The only possible thing here is that, for some reason, this MKV is not detected, I don’t know if this has anything to do with the metadata or perhaps even with the own version of the matroska file, but I guess this should be this file and how it was encoded. All the files in the same folder are detected, but this one is impossible. Perhaps with a download link from this file, someone at PLEX could verify why is not detected. It’s a movie.
Is the file playing with this player software? Releases · clsid2/mpc-hc · GitHub
If it doesn’t, it is an invalid file, which Plex won’t incorporate into its library.
VLC is not a good test, as it accepts and plays files which actually are damaged/malformed. VLC is like a sewage plant sometimes, you get garbage in and get clear water out.
Using MPC-HC is a better test, as it uses a similar software stack as Plex, so it often chokes on the same files as Plex.
