Plex does not like my MP4

I used a NAS to store my movies. So I guess I am using a NAS Plex server. Anyway, I use my Chromecast with Google TV to download the Plex app and connect it directly to my NAS.

It all worked fine, until I put in some MP4 movies.

Most of them are in x265 MP4 format, and some of them (not all of them) cannot run smoothly, ie. the motion pictures are stuttering. Teh same thing happened when I used the Plex on my laptop toe play the same movies. When I use any other player, such as classic player, they all work fine!

I saw a post saying the solution is to convert (remux) the MP4 to MKV.

I tried. It did work yes.

When I made them MKV, they all played fine.

But it is just not likely to convert all the movies to MKV.

Is there another soultion? I also have tried all kind of setting on Plex, but no luck.

Thanks.

  1. How did you convert them from MP4 to MKV?
  2. How were you playing them on your laptop with Plex, for example through a web browser (and which one? Firefox doesn’t support hardware accelerated H.265 for example) or were you using the dedicated Plex app?

It’s more likely that the act of remuxing the files fixed it, rather than the transition from mp4 to mkv

If you find another file like that run it through this, but keep it as an mp4 and see if that doesn’t work also
