Player Version#: Firestick app Version 8.28.0.30077
Hi All,
I converted several of my home videos from .MOV to .MP4 so I can play them on plex. When I start play it runs for 2 seconds and then crashes (closes plex out and goes back to Firestick home screen). I have several movies that are MP4, and they play fine. I used Microsoft Photo Editor to convert the videos. Very simple software I open it with MS Photos, click on edit photo or video and save it which is only option as MP4. There are not many options other than 1080P, 720P and lower. I have converted using all those options and plex still crashes. All the video work fine on Plex Web on my laptop just fine no issues.
Can you share some of the specifics of those files? Not sure if MS Photo Editor is the best solution to convert files. I haven’t seen plex having issues with mov or mp4 containers.
Since the 8.28.0.30077 update 8 days ago was pushed to my Firesticks, I can not play mp4 movies. Exact same symptoms; starts to play about 2 seconds, goes back to home screen. I’m trying to find a way to downgrade to previous version but unable to find apk file to do this. I also have a Chromecast with same Plex version and it has no issue at all. I don’t know if there is a new setting or setting that needs to be changed or if the android file is different for Amazon Firestick (App Store) vs Google Chrome (Play Store) or what is going on. 2 different TV’s with 2 different firesticks with same issue. Seems to be a Amazon Firestick and/or Plex version issue.
I’ve had issues with MP4 not playing smoothly in PLEX, I think the issue in my case was more specifically with ExoPlayer, which Plex uses.
You can try the MKV container instead of MP4 and see if that makes a difference. Converting MP4 to MKV is easy, and without any quality loss (just a change of containers).
